10 Fall Outfits With Sneakers + Style Tips

I’ve been featuring a lot of great fall pieces and cozy fall outfits on the blog recently in celebration of the changing season and cooler weather.

One key item you’ll see in a lot of these looks is a pair of low-top or low-profile sneakers.

If there’s one thing I’m known for, it’s my love of sneakers. I reach for them again and again because of their style, versatility, and comfort. They can complement just about any outfit, from business casual to relaxed weekend wear. And contrary to what we might think, the right sneaker can actually elevate an outfit, making it feel modern and adding the perfect touch of contrast.

Since fall is ideal for experimenting with layered looks and mixing cool- and warm-weather pieces, I’ve put together a round-up of outfit ideas with one key piece in common: sneakers.

So, if you’re a fan of comfortable, stylish footwear and love fresh outfit inspiration, you’re in the right place.

Let’s dive in!

10 Fall Outfits With Sneakers + Style Tips

A quick note on styling sneakers and incorporating them into an outfit:

For jeans or other pants, aim for a length that hits at or around the ankle. This doesn’t mean cropped, just a length that sits right at the ankle for a light, balanced look. Pairing this style with a low-profile sneaker helps keep the overall look sleek and chic.

✨ I know some of you might be wondering if these looks will leave your ankles feeling chilly, so here’s a gentle reminder: (1) you don’t have to go this route—feel free to swap the sneakers for boots if that’s more comfortable, and (2) maybe it’s worth giving it a try? As long as you’re not trudging through snow, these looks are more versatile than you might think!

The key to that balanced look, though, is pairing sneakers with an ankle-skimming hem. If you’ve ever worn a full-length, straight-leg jean with sneakers and found it looked bulky or lacking shape, it’s likely due to the proportions being off.

When it comes to dresses or skirts—especially in thicker fabrics like knits—you can experiment with both low-profile and chunkier, high-top sneakers.

Here, I’m using “neutral” sneakers that aren’t pure white. In fall and winter, I prefer sneakers with a hint of warmth, as bright white can sometimes feel a bit stark against autumnal tones. But that doesn’t mean an all-white sneaker won’t work—it’s all about preference.

There’s no rigid rule here; try on a few options and trust your instincts!

Jeans And A Houndstooth Blazer

Blazer, $198 ($118.80 after discount) | Tank, $26.50| Jeans, $148 | Sneakers, $150

FFor our first outfit, I created an updated version of an outfit we featured in this post.

GAP Relaxed Houndstooth Blazer is currently 40% off at checkout.  It is available in regular, tall, and petite sizes XXS-XXL. Gap Brands have been killing it lately. This is an excellent example of a high-quality, substantial piece at a reasonable price with lots of versatility.

I paired it with a basic white tank from J.Crew, but you can add anything, such as a long-sleeve white tee, a bodysuit, or a lightweight knit.

You can use a lighter or darker wash for the jeans. I went with the straight-leg jeans from J.Crew in ‘demi wash,’ but feel free to use a pair of jeans you already have in your closet.

Then, for the sneakers, I really like these Puma Select Indoor OGs. They are sized for men, but I think they look feminine, and on some sites, the woman’s size is translated as well. Simply add about 1.5 to 2 sizes to the men’s size. So, a man’s size 8 shoe is roughly equivalent to a woman’s size 9.5 or 10.

Jeans And A Cardigan

Cardigan, $45.99| Tee, $29.50| Jeans, $20.99 | Sneakers, $160

Here’s another example of an elevated outfit for fall featuring jeans and sneakers.

I recently featured this outfit in my post “What I’m Wearing Road Tripping,” but it’s perfect for any occasion where you want to be comfy yet polished.

The sneakers I feature in this look are the Veja Campo Bicolor Leather Low-Top Sneakers. Perhaps my most worn sneaker in my collection. They just work with so many things.

Check out the post to see the rest of the details of this outfit.

Coated Jeans and A Graphic Tee

Denim Shirt, $66.50 | Graphic Tee, $92  | Jeans, $99 | Sneakers, $100

Another jeans outfit for you, perfect for a stylish casual outfit for a warmer fall day.

Let’s start with a denim overshirt, like this top-rated cotton-hemp shirt from J.Crew.

OR if you picked up this best selling boyfriend shirt from Amazon it would be perfect here and it’s on sale for $35 today.

You’ll wear it over a graphic tee, whether it’s one you already own or one you pick up.

I’m a fan of Daydreamer, a fun tee-shirt brand at Nordstrom with good fit and quality. They are on the expensive side but I find their graphics to look more elevated than lesser priced options. So if you only want one or two graphic tees with versatility in your closet, consider spending a tiny bit more.

To elevate this outfit, I went with the Coated Ankle Slim Straight Leg Jeans from KUT

The coated jeans are available in sizes 00–18 for just under $100.

Finally, the sneakers I chose for this outfit are these fun Adidas Superstar sneakers. I love these sneakers because you can go for your morning walks in them with leggings and a hoodie, or add them to an outfit for an elevated sporty look.

Sweatshirt And Leggings

Faux Leather Leggings, $98 | Sweatshirt, $18.49 | Tee Shirt, $29.50 | Sneakers, $160 | Hat, $69

For an easy sneaker outfit for fall, start with a good pair of leggings.

By “good” I mean leggings that are nicer than the pair you wear around the house or to the gym.

For this outfit, I’m using Spanx Faux Leather Leggings. Spanx is my favorite brand for faux leather leggings, and they make both regular and fleece-lined versions that are great for cooler fall days.  You can see a full review of both here.

As another example of an outfit you’ll wear in real life, I paired them with cozy basics, beginning with the SoComfy Oversized Tunic Sweatshirt from Old Navy.

It’s currently marked down to $18.49. Available in regular, tall, and petite sizes XS-4X.

To wear underneath, I went with a basic white tee. Use the one you already have in your closet like this classic style from J.Crew, or grab one from Old Navy for under $10. Work with what you have, but you don’t need to spend here.

The Campo Bicolor Leather Low-Top Sneakers from Veja were my sneaker of choice for this look.

Complete the look with these chic, affordable sunglasses from Amazon.

Matching Sweater Set

Sweater, $18.49  | Skirt, $20  | Sneakers, $150  | Sunglasses, $13 | Earrings, $13 | Tote, $268

This is another outfit that might look familiar to some of you.

To mimic the look of a fall dress, I styled matching separates from Old Navy that give off the ultimate cozy, slouchy vibe.

The sweater and skirt are from Old Navy, but the skirt in ‘sedimentary’ is almost sold out. I recommend grabbing both pieces in either black or white.

I styled them with another one of my favorite pairs of Veja sneakers, the Esplar Bicolor Leather Low-Top Sneakers and the same sunglasses as above, as well as these door-knocker earrings to make a subtle yet chic statement.

This oversized leather tote is the perfect finishing touch.

Neutral Sweater Dress

Colorblock Sneakers, $110 | Dress, $89..50 (plus 40% Off) | Bag, $164 | Earring,

Another fabulous way to wear sneakers in the fall is to pair them with a cozy sweater dress. This look is effortless and modern, like getting dressed is easy.

I wanted to feature the Colorblock Sneakers from Madewell because they’re perfect to pair with a sweater dress in any neutral tone. I know many of you have these already from last year.

I like the CashSoft Turtleneck Maxi Sweater Dress here, another great Gap find. It’s available in regular, tall, and petite sizes, as well as S—XXL.

The knit works with the weight of the sneaker. To keep it elegant, I found this super cool, slightly oversized under-the-arm clutch for under $25 on Amazon and added these oversized teardrop earrings for something unexpected. They are also one of our best sellers from Amazon.

Sweater And Print Pants

Sweater, $129 | Pants, $89.99| Sneaker, $69.99 | Earring, $12.99

For this look, I played with the leopard print trend using a sleek, slim-cut pant. I say it all the time, but with leopard print, you have to be careful—too much, and you risk going full Janice from Friends!

This pair from Mango, though, gets my approval. The pattern is subtle, the colors are neutral, and it’s a statement piece that won’t overpower you. Plus, they’re under $100. Mango has been a standout for me this season.

To balance the print, I added a beautiful fisherman sweater from Nordstrom. It’s classic and elegant—think Diane Keaton in a Nancy Meyers film—so it creates a nice contrast with the bold pants.

For footwear, these mixed-neutral sneakers from Dolce Vita (found at DSW) are a great addition. They’re versatile, comfortable, and well-priced at $69.99, so you’ll get plenty of wear out of them.

And finally, a round of applause for these $13 pearl earrings from Amazon—such a steal for a polished finishing touch!

Straight-Leg Bottoms And A Barn Jacket

Barn Jacket, $398 | Jeans, $238 | Turtleneck, $89| Sneakers, $49

I recently wrote about why barn jackets are must-have outerwear for fall, so I’m including a way to wear them with sneakers.

Read my post about why you should add one to your fall wardrobe.

Then, once you find one you like, such as the Barbour Classic Beadnell Coated Canvas Utility Jacket, it’s relatively easy to build an outfit around it.

This look is similar to what I’ll wear on Halloween night when I take Vivi trick-or-treating.

Most utility-style barn jackets pair well with dark jeans or any dark straight-leg bottoms.

I went with the Tripper High-Rise Straight-Leg Jeans by Mother. These are a splurge, but the fit is unmatched when you land on a style that works for you.

I layered this waffle knit turtleneck in ivory from L.L. Bean, which feels like a cozy New England dream.

And these comfy All Birds sneakers are on sale for $49!

Color Block Pants and Sweater

Pants, $66.50| Sweater, $89.50  | Sneakers, $150 | Belt, $18.97

I’ve written several posts about green pants and the various ways to style them

Since they function as an effortless neutral, I thought I would feature an updated version of this outfit, starting with these olive wide-leg chinos from J.Crew, which are on sale for $66.50.

This introduces a new-shaped bottom to pair with your sneakers, which works well if they aren’t too long.

Then, a pop of unexpected color with this Magenta V-neck sweater, also from J.Crew.

I’m reusing the Puma Select Indoor OGs. I love the shape and color combination, and to pull it all together, I found this Vince Camuto belt on sale at Nordstrom Rack for $19. It pulls the color of the sneakers’ sole into the outfit and makes it feel really intentional.

Trench Coat

Trench Coat, $348  | Pants, $150  |Sweater, $66.50 | Sneakers, $160  |Scarf, $34.99

For the last look, let’s consider how to wear sneakers in the fall with a look that uses outerwear as a statement piece.

For this outfit, we’re using a chic, good-quality trench coat.

At this price point, you’re choosing an investment piece that will last for years and transition between seasons.

My pick is the New Icon Trench from J.Crew.

Wear it with your favorite pair of jeans or any casual bottom. Above, I’m featuring the Siena Slim Italian Wool Ankle Pant from Banana Republic in sizes 0 – 20 regular, tall, and petite sizes. I paired it with this rolled-neck sweater from J.Crew, on sale for $66.50.

I added our go-to Veja sneakers, and to tie the look together, how chic is this $35 scarf from H&M?

Is It OK To Wear White Sneakers In The Fall?

Yes, you absolutely can wear white sneakers in the fall. The key to pulling them off is to contrast them with other colors, particularly rich autumn hues and neutral tones.

What is your favorite way to wear sneakers in the fall?

I prefer sneakers with a hint of warmth, as bright white can sometimes feel a bit stark against autumnal tones. But that doesn’t mean an all-white sneaker won’t work—it’s all about preference.

There’s no rigid rule here; try on a few options and trust your instincts!

Would love some suggestions for black sneakers as well. Or do you really just prefer a version of white?

Great outfits! Would you style all of them with no show socks? Given no shows are starting to go out of style,I have trouble figuring out what kind of sock to wear with different shoes and outfits

Oh, great point, I should have mentioned something. I would ONLY wear these with no show socks. I don't understand the hate no show socks get, I will be wearing them indefinitely. ;)
