Amazon Try On Session: Casual Spring Finds

Like you, I see all the influencers online with their Amazon “dupes” and “must haves,” and I fall into the trap. Not only do I start ordering stuff I don’t need, but I know won’t work for me.

I think I still have the remnants of my youthful optimism. But I am quickly reminded as I pull a dress or top over my head that I am, in fact, middle-aged, live in the suburbs, and have the body of a woman who has birthed three humans.

Outfit One: V-Neck Cotton Sweater, $27.99 | Wide Leg “Yoga” Pants, $33.99 | Woven Bag, $95 | Block Heels, $130Outfit Two & Three: Half Zip: $35 | Leggings: $26 | Vest: $29 | Sneakers: $75 | Outfit Four: Half Zip (in rose) : $36.99 | Sneakers: $89 | Earrings in all looks: $14

And that’s the thing about some of these Amazon finds: you can pull them off if you are young and/or teeny tiny (wear what you want, but you know what I mean).

I, for one, should not be influenced by a 26-year-old with a TikTok account who sells real estate in Miami.

We are not the same, and I’m okay with that.

So, if you are like me and over 40, with a rather casual life, I found a few awesome things you might love.

Comfortable Workwear

V-Neck Cotton Sweater, $27.99 | Wide Leg “Yoga” Pants, $33.99 | Woven Bag, $95 |Block Heel, $140

I recently read somewhere that the combination of black bottoms and a gray sweater is an underrated go-to outfit formula to look polished-casual, and boy, do I agree.

Here’ I’m wearing a simple gray 100% Cotton sweater for under $30 (in size large) and these popular wide leg bottoms that look like trousers but feel like yoga pants, available in XS – 3X in regular, petite and tall. I’m wearing the large regular (and I’m 5’10).

The sweater is available in a range of colors in your choice of crew or v-necks in sizes up to XXL.

I rounded out the look with this woven bag, a bit expensive for Amazon but it’s nice quality and has a crossbody strap. I’m carrying the largest size.

Finally, my shoes are the Reader Favorite Marc Fisher block heels in black suede. I love these shoes I turn to them all the time. I bought mine at Nordstrom for $160 but I just found them on Amazon for $140!

Run Around Outfit

Half Zip: $35 | Leggings: $26 | Vest: $29 | Sneakers: $75

If you see me at drop off or Target, I’m probably wearing this, or a version of it.

I can’t say enough good things about this Half Zip. It fits well and feels great on. I like how it drapes. I’m wearing the large in light brown and went back and ordered the black, beige and gray.

For the most part I keep my athlesuire capsule neutral so all the pieces work together. It makes getting dressed in the morning easy, I don’t have to think about anything.

You probably already have these leggings, by CRZ Yoga. The compare to leggings that retail for $100 more. They wash and wear the same. I’m a big fan.

Also available in plus size here.

I threw on this puffer vest from Amazon Essentials. I don’t like when they look like a flotation device, so I like that this one is thin and slim, fitting the body just right. Available in XS – XXL, I took the large for $29 – other colors available.

Finally, I’ve been wearing the Nike Waffle Running sneaker ($75) constantly, I adore the color combination, they just go with everything.

Pop of Color

Half Zip (in rose) : $36.99 |Leggings: $26 | Sneakers: $89 | Earrings in all looks: $14

Finally, I get crap for not showing a lot of color, which isn’t true, there are colorful options all over the site.

But when it comes color, I don’t want you wearing it for the sake of wearing it. I so often here women frustrated with their wardrobes because they bought something to add personality and interest, usually a colorful top or sweater, but they don’t really like it , so they never wear it.

So where color, just make sure you LOVE it.

I happen to love this pretty rose color, it brightens my face. And the top, a ribbed half-zip is slimming on. I’m wearing the medium, other colors available in S – XXL.

I’m wearing the same CRZ Yoga leggings, and these New Balance Sneakers, that I was surprised to see I bought in 2022. They are still in fantastic shape.

Finally, in all the looks I’m wearing these new (to me) Pavoi hoops in gold (also available in silver tone) for $14.

Hahaha! I loved your description of vests resembling floatation devices! That really made me laugh! Now I know why I don’t like vests (other than the fact that if I want warmth I need sleeves too). So many puffer vests look like life jackets! You’re right though. This one looks great on you. Thanks for giving me a chuckle today!

Recently found you and so happy I did! Your fashion truth and honesty are fantastic! :) While I'm past my 40's and then some, I find the looks you show work well for me and my life style. (I'm 5'9" and wear scrubs to work.) Like you, I tend to stick to the same colors, but you make it all look so put together. (love the gray sweater!) Thank you so much!

I was quite excited about the rose half zip - until I saw the “hand wash only”warning. If this were a nice sweater that was only worn occasionally, I’d be fine with that. But I’m not hand washing my sweatshirts.

I'm not hand washing this. I threw it in the wash and hung it to dry.

So nice to find so many great wardrobe choices for women. I’m not a forty something. My children are grown and I’m enjoying my grands. But most of the looks presented can be incorporated into my wardrobe and inspire me to pull the pieces together. It makes me feel good.

Thank you for showing clothes that real women over 40 can wear! These are great casual everyday options for those of us who aren’t 20-something 😊.
