It’s a snowy morning outside of Philadelphia. The kids are doing a half day of online learning instead of an official snow day, which I wasn’t thrilled about initially, but now I’m grateful they are occupied until lunchtime.
So, it’s the perfect time to share our January Capsule Wardrobe.
This month, I pulled together a collection of super wearable pieces in saturated neutrals. This might be my favorite capsule, with clean, tailored lines and versatile pieces you can mix and match with other basics in your closet.
10 Piece January Capsule Wardrobe
I don’t have a process for creating a capsule wardrobe. Sometimes, I have a particular idea or need I want to meet; other times, I have a color story in mind. For today’s capsule, I found this cardigan/jacket from J.Crew and knew I wanted to use it as inspiration.
So we’re starting there with the J.Crew Emilie Sweater Lady Jacket. It’s so striking. There are several color and stripe options, but I went with the ivory with the red and navy trip because of how fresh it looks.
This sweater jacket is made of 100% cotton (this year, I’m trying to prioritize as many natural fiber pieces as possible). It is available in sizes XXS – 3X. You could wear this as a stand-alone piece, but you’ll feel more comfortable with a simple tank underneath. Nothing crazy. These Amazon Essential Tanks are my go-to for layering, and you get two for $15.
The sweater jacket’s natural pairing is classic navy trousers or denim. So I found both.
First, the High Rise Cheeky Straight Jeans from Gap is a great find if you are looking for classic, 90s-style straight-leg jeans with a touch of modern-day stretch. We work with many Gap Brands because they have a fabulous range of sizes.
This pair is available in regular, tall, and petite sizes 24 – 35 in your choice of three lengths for $39. Keep in mind that these will stretch, so I always size down.
Next, I looked for a classic navy trouser with a wide leg. But everything I found, the wide leg, was massive. Then I checked out Boden and saw this lovely pair of bottoms from Boden with a leg that is just right.
I only feature a few Boden pieces because their look is so specific, but they have fantastic staples in an excellent range of sizes and very reasonable prices.
For another top option, how perfect is this light blue Alpaca Wrap Sweater from Everlane? It’s just beautiful quality at an excellent price. Sizes are getting limited, though.
You might also like their Alpaca Cropped Crewneck Sweater (it’s not cropped). It’s available in the same blue, but I ordered it in the color “snow” on sale for only $41.
Go ahead and mix and match the tops and bottoms.
You can wear any shoe you already have, from flats to ankle boots, but I included these Reader Favorite Block Heels by Marc Fisher in navy suede; they’ll. They’ll be nice to have going into spring and work with either pair of bottoms above.
Let’s move on to the sweater dress. I’ve placed several orders from Tuckernuck recently and have always been satisfied.
Their Vivianne Dress is so soft and perfect to wear instead of jeans. AvailableIt is available in black, winter white, and hazelwood (featured) in sizes XS – XXL.
Pair with tights and boots. I’m featuring these gorgeous Cole Haan riding boots in British Tan – they are just stunning. A few sizes are still available at Bloomingdales; I wish I found these earlier in the season.
If you scooped up the J.Crew Piper Boots, they would look fantastic here too.
Finally, this month’s accessories are Chefs Kiss.
This crossbody bag looks sleek and designer, but it’s from Fossil and on sale for under $70. It’s leather and has no tacky logo.
And then the earrings. Can we talk about how BEAUTIFUL these Julie Vos earrings are? They are from her new Laurel collection, and I adore every piece.
This pair is $165 and simply gorgeous. You can also get them for $ 145 without the pearl drop. I don’t know which one I like better.
Finally, I recently bought this pair of designer-inspired earrings (in the smallest size), and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality. They look high-end but were only $15.
