Welcoming Fall with Talbots

Thank you, Talbots, for sponsoring this post.

I love living where we live on the East Coast.

We’re a mere two-hour drive to our favorite beach, or go 45 minutes north and you’re in Bucks County, the perfect fall destination.

You can see the leaves change, take the kids pumpkin or apple picking or spend the day exploring.

My favorite thing to do this time of year is take a day off mid-week, drive to New Hope or Lambertville, have lunch, and stroll in and out of shops.

It’s so peaceful and feels like a real escape, like walking around a postcard.

And what makes it extra special is the perfect fall outfit, which I recently found at Talbots in their new arrivals.

I make no exaggeration when I say I adore this outfit.

And we love Talbots for their range of inclusive sizes, with classic, updated styles perfect for this time of year.

Coat | Bag | Sweater | Jeans

This time of year, the key to a great outfit is the coat.

I call them “Outfit Coats.”

They are what you wear when you are spending the day outside, in and out of stores, stopping for a coffee, grabbing a drink with friends, sightseeing, etc.

The coat is the statement, it pulls an otherwise simple look together, adding real impact.

And this is the quintessential Outfit Coat. It’s stunning, one of the prettiest coats I’ve ever owned.

This plaid wool blend coat is available in misses, petite, plus and plus petite.

Coat | Bag

The colors are stunning – a mix of greens, with a pop of mustard yellow and pink

It goes well with shades of brown, grey or dark denim

I paired it with this cognac Saddle Bag with contrasting top stitch.

It has an adjustable strap that allows you to carry it like a shoulder bag or a hands-free crossbody.

I love how the top stitch of the bag compliments the detail on the coat.

Sweater

Underneath I have on their Cable Knit Funnel Neck Sweater in ivory.

When putting an outfit together for a day out, I like using simple layers that work together and can stand on their own. Something like this Cable Knit Sweater adds texture and interest without having to add more layers.

And it’s cozy.

Available in five colors in misses, petite, plus and plus petite.

Megan, you look beautiful in this outfit. Love the soft but still vibrant look. I love coats, especially Talbots coats. They are well made and current. I saw the coat in the catalog. I just might have to order it, although I have already purchased a new coat for the fall. This one leans more casual, so I could definitely use it the way you have styled it. Perfect for Virginia’s fall and early winter weather. I also like the handbag, I was worried the blanket stitching might be a little much! But it looks fabulous the way you styled it. Thanks for showcasing clothes and outfits that all ages and sizes can wear. I am 70 and usually wear a medium. Talbots is my go to for classic and reasonably priced clothes. And you are my go to for all things fashion! Thank you.

Hi Megan- Hello from Bucks County! I live right near the spots you mentioned. There is nothing better than dressing in fall clothes and enjoying fall activities in Pennsylvania these next few weeks! Thanks for all of the great advice for dressing well. I also love a great statement/outfit coat.

I used to look forward to fall, but that’s when I lived in a cooler climate. Fall doesn’t happen until mid to late November here in central Arizona. And even then, it’s like early fall where the temps can be as high as 85 degrees on any day between Thanksgiving and Valentine’s Day. It never really gets cold enough to wear a coat. Sigh.

This look is stunning on you! I love the idea of a statement coat to anchor the outfit…and the getaway day to stroll shops and sip coffee in a picturesque setting while sporting said statement coat also appeals!

These pieces are timeless and will be staples for perhaps more than a season-thank you for sharing!

I LOVE your outfit. I have been looking at the Talbot’s catalog since the closest Talbot’s for me is on Dover or Salisbury. I liked several things, especially the jacket you are wearing. The way you describe where you live almost sounds like you live north of me in DE. Thank you for your advice, it’s helping me get through my closets. My challenge is I go up and down in weight 25-30 lbs every 3-4 years so I keep some things in three different sizes. I needed to figure out how to keep my weight steady but healthy. Have a blessed day.
