Today I learned that posing in your workout clothes is almost as humbling as taking a bathing suit photo.
But I’m here to keep it real and share the unfiltered, so here goes.
I’ve talked before about my major lifestyle revamp since last January, which includes but is not limited to focusing on regaining my fitness.
I had my third C-Section with my third and final almost 10-pound baby when I was 39.
Then Covid hit immediately after that, and everything, including my body, went to hell.
Until recently, I never struggled with my weight. I worked out, but I never battled the scale until I had a baby at almost 40, the world shut down, and my nerves went haywire.
Thankfully, with a lot of help, I’ve been able to regain my footing and focus.
And my stubbornness continues to serve me well.
I will not accept that this is part of “getting older.”
Of course, I have to do things differently and consider things like my hormones, etc., but I refuse to believe it’s all over after 40. Not when I feel like I’ve finally figured myself out and am actually living my most authentic life.
I’m okay saying I want to be fit, I want to look great, I want to be confident, but I really want to have stamina and health.
At the heart of all this, I want to be as youthful as possible for as long as possible so my youngest gets the same vital mom my older girls had.
The journey has been the most challenging, most humbling thing I’ve ever done. The level of consistency is crazy and a lesson in patience, which I am very much lacking.
There are weeks when the scale doesn’t move, but you’re doing everything right, or you’re doing everything right, and the scale goes up.
I’m focusing less and less on that and more on how I feel, where my strength level is, what I can do this month that I couldn’t do last, how my clothes fit, and most importantly, my mood and energy level.
And cumulatively, since last January, the scale is down by 30 pounds. So, it’s working; it’s just taking forever.
I’m about halfway to my goal. And I keep telling myself, keep going, because doing nothing doesn’t move us forward either.
The workouts that have been the most impactful are strength training, hot yoga (with variations that include strength and cardio in a hot room), and incline walking.
It was in one of my hot classes when I realized I need better workout clothes, ones that let me move and allow me to sweat comfortably (these rooms are set to about 97 degrees).
So, our older girls are athletes, and Lululemon is there go-to for everything, it’s part of their uniform, they wear it to workout and just to hang out.
It is incredibly well made and so comfortable.
But holy smokes is it expensive.
I was stunned at what I spent at Christmas on just a few little outfits, and it’s hard to give me sticker shock.
So for myself, I have a few pieces, but not enough to get me through a week of workouts.
There are so many less expensive options out there, so many recommended by Influencers, and everything I ordered was a disappointment.
Except for one brand, CRZ YOGA on Amazon.
These are the closest to the real thing I’ve tried for a fraction of the price. Specifically, they are a dupe for the Align collection.
Now, I’m not saying I won’t wear Lululemon again. They are my treat when I reach a goal, but I can’t afford to wardrobe myself in it.
Here’s what I have and love.
First, leggings.
I’m wearing their Naked Feeling High Waisted Full-Length Yoga Pants. These are 28″ and fit my 5’10 frame perfectly.
They come in a ton of colors and run true to size, I am wearing the medium.
Next, the sports bra.
Above I’m wearing their Strappy Longline Wirefree Padded Medium Impact Crop Tank Top/Sports Bras also available in a wide range of colors in XS – XL. I took the large size.
It is a bra and a tank in one. I like the support and stretch that allows you to move.
Only recently have I been brave enough to just wear the leggings and bra to a hot class, which is a big deal for me. So you can wear the bra as a top.
I appreciate the coverage, since the leggings are high waisted, and the bra is long, you only see a little skin. If you’ve ever been in a heated class, you know people wear much, much less.
For other classes, like a strength class, I wear a tank on top, like this Racerback Yoga Top.
I also like this tank that has a built in bra and a shorter length. I don’t need to wear another bra underneath, but you might be more comfortable.
Finally, I have to share this chic puffer, from Amazon’s the Drop brand. I freaking love it.
The length is short, which I like, it keeps you warm and looks great with leggings or joggers.
Available in six colors up to and including a size 5X.
