How To Wear Lug Boots

Here at The Well Dressed Life, my goal is to help you create a classic and modern wardrobe. I do this by highlighting both timeless and trending items and sharing wardrobe basics and must-haves at a variety of prices, in as many sizes as possible.

Then, I take those pieces and give you outfit inspiration throughout the season, building looks with the clothes, shoes, and accessories we know you already have in your closet.

Instead of feeling like you are constantly reinventing the wheel every time you try to get dressed, I want to show you how to create a versatile wardrobe that you can build on throughout each season.

The key to the success of our site is my connection with our readership. I read every comment, email, and DM. I also have a small group of our readership I speak with regularly to ensure we are staying on the right track.

All this is to say, these posts are based on your requests, so if you would like to see something specific, just shoot me a note. 🙂

The Shoe of the Season: The Lug Boot

The Tory Burch Lug Booties were a top seller in August and sold out quickly. Most of our readers scooped them up during the Nordstrom Sale, but at the regular price, they were almost $400. If they were in your budget, I hope you are enjoying them, because they are fabulous.

If you missed out or were waiting for a more affordable option, I found it!

Steve Madden’s Chelsea Boot is a fantastic dupe, at a $100(ish) price point and a more approachable style.

The Lug boot “trend” will be with us for a few seasons, so you’ll get your money’s worth out of any style you choose.

Traditional “lug” boots have a thick rubber sole, which provides top-notch tread in harsh weather. Today, in the style world, they are the edgy alternative to a slim-lined ankle boot.

Can you still wear your old boots?

Absolutely.

Just consider these if you want to update your look with an easy-to-wear trend.

Many lug boots are heavy and clunky. However, this is slimmer and lighter weight while still maintaining the style elements of the trend.

Simply put: wear these if you love your classic ankle boots but want to stay modern and current.

Cute Outfit with Lug Boots

Let’s start with the plaid shacket, another gem from Old Navy. Last month, this similar style was a best seller, but it’s almost completely sold out. However, this green version is adorable and available in all sizes, including petite and tall, up to 4X

Shackets are just what they sound like, a shirt and a jacket, ideal for layering. I found this simple henley at Nordstrom for under $40, but you can wear this over anything. I also like it with a turtleneck, like this thermal from Target for $18, available in sizes S – 3X. * side note, I’m picking this up for ski season

Then I used skinny corduroy pants in gray. KUT makes affordable, well-fitting pants in petite and regular sizes. These pants come in a wide range of colors for $69

I like that they are a jean alternative and provide some additional texture to the outfit.

Finally, I added this Ugg beanie because (1) I love using winter hats as part of a look, and (2) this would make a lovely gift, and it’s on sale at Saks for only $24 – the perfect price point!

I love this entire look. Perfect for the season. Thank you!! I honestly would not have considered lug boots.

I was hesitant with them too, but I really like them now! :)

Question: if the jeans are long, do you cuff them or tuck into the lug boot?

Hi! Either, it will just depends on the look you like best. For this look I personally would have the cords tucked into the boot. :)
