Bootcut jeans are back in a big way, and if you have been wondering how to wear them again, you are in the right place. This silhouette has made a massive return, and for many of us, it feels a little nostalgic. If you wore bootcut jeans in college or through the early 2000s, you will remember how they went with everything.
The good news is that the modern bootcut jean is a huge upgrade from what we wore back then. Today’s styles are high waisted, leg lengthening, and designed to be completely wearable for women over 40. No low rise cuts. No midriff baring tops. Just clean, polished denim that works in everyday life.
Bootcut jeans are one of the most versatile denim shapes you can own. They balance proportions, create a long line from hip to hem, and pair easily with sneakers, flats, loafers, ankle boots, and heels. If you have been wondering how to style bootcut jeans, this updated fit makes it incredibly simple.

Before we go any further, here is the most important rule.
You have to consider length.
The right length is what makes bootcut jeans flattering. If they are too long, they drag and lose their shape. If they are too short, they cut you off visually and eliminate the leg lengthening effect. And here is what I know many of you do not want to hear, but you need to trust me. Proper hemming is the difference between looking polished and looking sloppy, and it is the fastest way to make even inexpensive denim look elevated.
You have to stop expecting everything to fit perfectly right out of the box. Jeans can and should be altered, and in the case of bootcut jeans, if you find a pair you love, I highly recommend buying two pairs. Keep one hemmed for flats or sneakers, and the other long enough so you can wear them with heels and boots.
In this guide, I break down exactly how to wear bootcut jeans in 2025. We will cover how they should fit, what shoes work best, what tops pair well with them, and the easiest outfit formulas you can use to make them a go to piece in your wardrobe.
The Best Bootcut Jeans to Try
** please note all prices are subject to change and are correct as we go live **
For today’s post, I pulled together a few bootcut jean recommendations at a range of price points. These are all easy to wear, widely available, and offered in sizes and lengths that make it simple to get the right fit.
First, the Gap Factory Baby Bootcut Jeans are a great and very affordable option. Right now they are priced at $39.99 with an extra 20 percent off, which is an incredible value. They come in a wide size range with several length options, so you can buy more than one pair and hem them for different shoes. The quality is similar to Old Navy, so they are decent and absolutely worth the price, but do not mistake them for anything designer.
On the higher end, I recently ordered the Good American Soft Tech Good Classic Slim Bootcut Jeans. I took the size 8, which is typically my size, but I should have ordered the 6. These have a good amount of stretch and you want them to start off snug. I am 5 feet 10 inches, and these are long enough for me, so you will want to have them hemmed.
Currently Good American is offering 40% off everything sitewide.
I am ordering the size 6 and plan to hem them for flats. When you take them to a tailor, ask them to reattach the original hem so you keep the finished look of the jeans.
Ok, now let’s get into the outfits because I LOVE these.

This is such a great look. It has layers of texture, soft movement, and those little pops of color that make an outfit feel interesting without losing its elegance. It is elevated, wearable, and very much in the spirit of modern bootcut styling.
You are going to see a lot of tie neck blouses this season.
It is another trend from the early 2000s coming back, and it can look incredibly chic when you keep the palette simple. My advice is to stick to soft neutrals and skip the bold patterns. The blouse featured above is the Georgette Tie Neck Blouse from Ralph Lauren, but you can easily swap in the 100 percent washable silk option from Quince if you prefer something lighter or more budget friendly.
By now you know I am a coat girl. I love a good coat, and this one from Favorite Daughter is gorgeous. It is long and cozy but still tailored, so it does not overwhelm you or read like a bathrobe. The tonal pairing of the blouse and coat is stunning and brings a lot of quiet sophistication to the outfit. You can find less expensive versions of the coat in various fabric blends, like this Tie Waist Coat from Bernardo at Nordstrom is a nice wool blend option on sale for $130.
I also think you need a belt here, and gold makes the most sense. I found this super affordable skinny leather belt at Banana Republic Factory for $30 that ties everything together without adding bulk.
The accessories are where this look really comes alive. The flats are from Birdies, and they are some of the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn. They were originally designed to be elevated house shoes, and now they come in the prettiest prints and textures. This pair is The Starling in Marigold Velvet and they are beautiful in person.
For earrings, I wanted something green to contrast with the warm tones, and found this fabulous pair at Tuckernuck for $58. The satin clutch is also from Tuckernuck for $98, I like how the satin of the bag works back to the blouse.
Tuckernuck has a fantastic selection of well priced accessories this time of year, and both pieces add just the right amount of personality.

Our second look goes casual, and it is a great reminder that when you have the right pieces, a thoughtful and well composed outfit is incredibly easy to pull together.
We are starting with the Wide Rib Cashmere Turtleneck Sweater from J.Crew in cherry red. It is top rated and such a classic pop of color. It works beautifully with denim and adds just the right amount of personality. A quick note. I have found their sweaters to run very small lately, so keep that in mind when you order.
I included a belt again, because it finishes the outfit and gives the sweater a little structure. This one is a best seller from Favorite Daughter and the quality is excellent for just under $100. I have it in black and tan. As a very elder millennial, I would do a little half tuck of the sweater, and the belt ties the look together.
Then we added our reader favorite leather woven bag from Quince. This bag is fantastic. The color and texture make it look far more expensive than it is, and it fits seamlessly into a casual outfit like this.
The sneakers are also best sellers, this time from Keds. I like that the tan on the sole echoes the colors of the belt and bag, and the black laces add a bit of contrast. And finally, the Monica Vinader Tapered Hoops are one of our most popular earrings of the year. They are comfortable, easy to wear, and right now they are 50% off so just under $100.

This final look is classic and modern, built with individual pieces that all have incredible versatility in your wardrobe. A bootcut jean and a blazer go together like peanut butter and jelly, and I know many of you already own the Diana Blazer from Tuckernuck, so here is a fresh way to wear it. If you want a lower priced option, we’re going back to Quince, theirs is in a scuba material so it’s stretchy but theirs is also $100.
I would style the blazer over a simple white tee. I recently discovered the brand Nuuds, and they make some of the best white tee shirts I have ever tried. Their Vintage Cotton Everyday T Shirt is fantastic. It has a slightly frayed hem, which is why they call it vintage, and I love it because it makes me look cooler than I actually am. I also recommend their Perfect Tee, which is clean, stretchy, and completely opaque. Both wash well, although the vintage cotton will need a quick steam or iron.
I added a grey cashmere blanket scarf from Tuckernuck. It is $200, so not inexpensive, but it is lovely and you can personalize it. Quince has a similar version that is not as oversized, but it is cashmere and only $54, so you can get the same look for less. I carry scarves everywhere because restaurants are always freezing.
For the shoes, if you scooped up the J.Crew Stevie Ankle Boots, congratulations, because they are almost sold out. I found a similar pair from Marc Fisher at Macy’s with the same toe shape and heel height. They are suede, which looks beautiful with this outfit.
For the bag, I recently saw this MAISON de SABRÉ black shoulder bag at Nordstrom and if I needed another black bag, I would have bought it. It is currently 25 percent off. I have never bought anything from MAISON de SABRÉ that I did not love.
Accessories stay simple here. The Parker Hoops from Electric Picks are still on sale for $44, and the chain necklace is from BaubleBar. It retails for $48, but their Black Friday sale is still running, so it is now $33.
