There’s something about late August that always feels a little disorienting. It’s still summer, but everything is shifting. School is starting in many parts of the country or just around the corner, routines are being set, and schedules that once felt far off are being announced. Life starts to move quickly again.
And if you’re anything like me, you’re realizing how fast the year flies once we hit September. One blink and it’s Halloween. Then Thanksgiving. Then we’re staring down a new year. Everything speeds up, except the space we give ourselves to actually prepare for it.
So before we get swept into the momentum of fall, this feels like the perfect moment to pause. To take stock. Not just of what we need, but of how we want to feel moving into this next season.
Because style, when you approach it with intention, can be one of the few areas where you get to choose just for you. After years of throwing on whatever worked in the moment, I’ve found myself in a season where I finally have the space to ask different questions. Not just “What do I need for fall?” but “Who am I now, and how do I want to show up?”
When I say “who we want to be,” I don’t mean changing yourself or becoming someone else. I mean using your style choices to support your best self. To reflect the version of you that might have been buried under the noise and busyness of life. The one who already exists, but hasn’t had the space or the wardrobe to fully come through.
And often, the version of ourselves we want to reconnect with has been there all along. She’s just been on pause.
So before you click through another sale or buy something on impulse, I want to offer a different kind of reset. One that doesn’t start with a shopping list, but with a shift in perspective.
Ask yourself: What do I want my style to feel like this season?
How to Reset Your Personal Style Before Fall
This week on the blog, we’re walking through a five-day Style Reset—using simple, reflective steps to help you reconnect with what you really want from your wardrobe this fall.
Whether your goal is to refine your personal style, shop more intentionally, or just feel more like yourself when you get dressed, it starts here—with clarity.

Why Fall Is the Right Time for a Style Reset
Unlike January, which tends to be full of lofty resolutions, fall brings a quieter kind of fresh start. It’s a natural time to come back to yourself. To settle in. To reflect and refine.
And it’s one of the best seasons to reconnect with your personal style, especially if it’s changed or you’re in a season of evolving.
Maybe your body is different.
Maybe your priorities have shifted.
Maybe you’ve been in survival mode, and now you’re ready to feel like yourself again.
Or maybe you’re in a good place. You’re feeling stronger, more confident, more centered. You want your outside to reflect that inner shift. You’re not trying to reinvent yourself—you’re trying to come home to yourself.
Wherever you are, this week is for you.
This Week: A Simple Style Reset
All week long, I’m sharing five posts to help you pause, reflect, and get intentional about your style before fall begins. No pressure. No rules. Just real clarity and a few small shifts that make a big impact.
Here’s the plan:
- Day 1: Ask the right questions and start with clarity
- Day 2: Build a personal style vision board
- Day 3: Align your wardrobe with your real life
- Day 4: Identify your wardrobe essentials
- Day 5: Let go of what no longer fits or reflects you
Step One: Get Clear on How You Want Your Style to Feel
When your wardrobe feels out of sync, it’s rarely about the clothes themselves. It’s because your life has changed, and your style hasn’t caught up.
Whatever the reason, the best place to begin isn’t with a capsule or a checklist. It’s with clarity.
So ask yourself:
How do I want to feel in my clothes this fall?
Not how you want to look.
Not what’s trending.
Not what your friends or coworkers are wearing.
But how you want to feel.
Some words that come up over and over again in our community:
- Polished
- Effortless
- Comfortable
- Confident
- Modern
- Classic
Pick three that feel good to you. These are your Style Notes. Your personal filter. When something doesn’t align with them, it doesn’t belong in your closet.

👉 How to Find Your Personal Style
What to Do Today
Here’s your gentle, practical homework:
- Read How to Find Your Personal Style
- Write down three words that describe how you want to feel in your clothes this season
Tape them inside your closet. Save them to your phone. Jot them in your planner. You want these to be aspirational, and reflect the life you are living right now. - Keep those words close all week
We’ll build on them over the next few days, so you can use them as a filter to guide your fall wardrobe with purpose.
Make It Visual
Once you’re clear on how you want your style to feel, the next step is to bring that feeling to life. Tomorrow, I’ll show you how to create a personal style vision board that’s not only pretty but actually helpful—so you can start seeing how your words translate into outfits that work for you.
Final Thought
Style is personal. It reflects what matters to you, how you move through your days, and what you want to express—even when you’re just getting dressed to run errands or sit at your desk.
For many of us, especially after years of putting everyone else first, style becomes one of the few areas where we get to make decisions for ourselves. And if you’re anything like me, after years of rushing and doing for everyone else, those choices became quick and thoughtless—whatever was easy, whatever worked in the moment.
Now that life feels a little more settled, I’m excited to explore who I am now and reconnect with the version of myself I put on pause.
And often, getting dressed with intention is one of the first ways we start to feel like ourselves again.
So before you shop for fall, ask yourself:
What do I want my style to feel like right now?
Let that question shape what comes next.
