What to Buy at Boden

If you’re looking for easy dresses, good tops, and warm-weather pieces that feel pulled together, Boden is a strong option.

When I look at what you’re actually buying, it’s consistent. Dresses you can throw on and go. Tops that work across multiple outfits. Pieces in cotton, linen, and jersey that get worn, not saved.

That’s where Boden delivers. They also do something a little different. Alongside the basics, they offer bold prints and updated classics with just enough detail to make them feel current without being trendy.

And they do it in a price range that makes sense, with most of their best pieces landing right in that $80 to $150 range you already shop.

If you’re filling in gaps or want a few pieces with a bit more personality, this is a brand where you can find things you’ll actually wear.

Sizing & Fit Notes

Boden offers a full size range along with petite, regular, and long in many styles, which makes a real difference for fit.

Most dresses and tops run true to size. Their trousers can be a little more fitted through the hip, so if you’re between sizes, go up.

Mia Jersey Midi Dress

Mia Jersey Midi Dress at Boden — $99

This is the kind of dress you end up wearing on repeat, it’s chic and simple in a stunning way and just under $100.

It’s 100% cotton, comfortable, easy, and polished enough to wear out of the house without needing much else. Ideal for travel with a flat sandal and a bold earring and bracelet.

Available in 5 colors, I went with black for the most versatility.

Sizes: 2–22, Petite/Regular/Long

Ava Cotton Midi Dress

Ava Cotton Midi Dress at Boden — $249

You probably know I’m a bit of a print snob. Most are bad. But Boden does this well. Their prints feel closer to Farm Rio, just in more wearable silhouettes.

I love the Ava Cotton Midi Dress. It wears like a shirt dress with a fuller skirt and sleeves, which gives it shape without feeling fussy. It works for dinners, daytime events, or anything where you want to look pulled together but still comfortable.

I’d still be selective with the print. This is a piece you’ll reach for often, so choose one you won’t tire of.

Sienna Linen Shirt

Sienna Linen Shirt at Boden — $110

A linen button-down is one of the hardest working pieces in a summer wardrobe. We’ve featured a few recently, so if you already have your basics covered, this is a good place to try something with a little more personality. I really like the zig zag print here.

The fit is relaxed without feeling oversized, and the fabric has enough weight to feel substantial. It works with denim, white jeans, or, if you want to lean into it, the matching linen shorts.

If you’re building from scratch, start with white or light blue. If not, this is an easy way to add something a little different.

Carmen Linen Short Dress

Carmen Linen Short Dress at Boden — $220

This is where Boden leans into what they do differently and I LOVE it.

It’s a shorter, more relaxed shape with a swingy fit and wider sleeves, so it feels easy and breathable in hot weather. The linen keeps it practical, but the print gives it some personality.

This is not your everyday errand dress, but it’s great for weekends, vacation, or anything casual where you still want to look like you put some thought into it. And the fabric has some weight to it which is important considering it’s over $200.

If you’re going to try one of their bolder prints, this is a good place to do it. The shape keeps it grounded. There are four print options, I went with the Blue Blossom Elegance featured above and took a medium.

Dimitra Linen Column Skirt

Dimitra Linen Column Skirt at Boden — $160

Come on, how great is this? It’s a little unexpected, but still very wearable.

It gives you an alternative to shorts while still feeling casual. The shape is clean, the length is easy, and if it feels a bit long, it’s a simple hem at your tailor or dry cleaner.

It comes in white, a preppy green, and this cheetah print, which would be my pick.

Effie Smocked Shirt

Effie Smocked Shirt at Boden — $110

This is a nice update to a classic button-down in a soft, casual fabric, 60% cotton and 40% TENCEL™ Modal.

The smocking adds subtle shape while still keeping the overall look polished. It’s an easy way to add a little interest to your everyday tops without overthinking it.

There are a few colors and patterns, but I’d go with the navy. It works easily with white shorts or any of your summer bottoms..

Breton Cotton Top

Breton Cotton Top at Boden — $55

Boden is know for their classic Breton stripe in a soft cotton jersey, with a clean neckline and an easy fit. It works with everything. Denim, white jeans, shorts, even tucked into a skirt. This is the kind of piece that fills in gaps and makes the rest of your wardrobe work harder.

This is well priced at $55, with nice weight to the fabric so it holds its shape over time.

I’d go with a navy and white stripe first. It’s the most versatile and feels current without trying too hard. These also sell out fast early in the season so if you like them, stock up.

Ren Cotton Crew Neck T-shirt

Ren Cotton Crew Neck T-shirt at Boden — $45

This is a solid, well-priced 100% cotton T-shirt.

A simple crewneck that works with everything. Denim, linen pants, skirts, shorts. It’s the kind of piece you end up reaching for on repeat.

The cotton has a nice weight to it, so it holds its shape, doesn’t feel flimsy, and isn’t see-through. The sleeves are just slightly longer, which a lot of you are always asking for.

There are several colors. Black and white are the obvious basics, but the red is especially good.

Richmond Tailored Shorts

Richmond Tailored Shorts at Boden — $90

If you like a tailored short with a slightly longer inseam, this is a good pair to try.

Available in both 4″ and 6″ inseams and cut like a trouser, these feel a little more dressed than your average short. They’re 100% linen and machine washable, though you’ll want to give them a quick press or steam.

The color options are strong, including a rich burnt orange and a green, but I’d still start with a neutral like the navy (featured).

Wear them with a simple tee or a button-down and treat them like a short version of your trousers, not an afterthought.

Relaxed Cotton Stitch Cardigan

Relaxed Cotton Stitch Cardigan at Boden — $220

This is a special piece, and the price reflects that.

At $220, this is not the cardigan you buy because you need a basic layer. You buy it because it gives a simple outfit personality. It’s 100% cotton, machine washable, relaxed without being sloppy, and designed to hit between the waist and hip.

The ivory with embroidery is the whole point and I like how it is worn here as it’s own piece. Wear it with white jeans, light-wash denim, or over a simple summer dress. It does enough on its own, so keep everything else clean.

Sizes: XS–XL

Great article - at this point, my wardrobe is pretty much all of your recommendations. I had a question about the size you took for the Carmen Linen Short Dress. It says it runs a little big, I wasn't sure whether to size down and wondering if you ordered your regular size? Thanks again for such helpful content!

I love your content and often buy things based on your recommendations! The pop up Hulu ads over the picture of every item made this page nearly impossible to read. :(

I often count on Boden for their petite basics and tops as well as boots and sometimes other shoes or accessories. Return policy is great. Usually significantly natural fabrics as well. Important to me. Tempted! Thanks so much. The struggle is real for the petite over 40… or 50… or beyond who doesn’t want to be “cute” or frumpy. Hate those pats on the head (lol)

Great round up! Megan, can you share what size in the Boden Breton you wear? I have found the fit of this top very awkward and unflattering (I have ordered about 3-4, each time hoping it will fit differently since so many influencers recommend this top). For reference, I am 5ft8 with a bust of 32 D (sometimes DD), about 138 lbs--and this top is always unflattering across the bosom. The fabric does not stretch at all, and I think it is made for a much more flat chested figure, as it pulls and rides up under the arms in a 6 (my usual size) and in a size 8. It is also rather uncomfortable (due to the lack of stretch). I have not tried a size 10, as I suspect it will gap in all the wrong places and appear too large. The top does not seem to accommodate a bust.
