All week long, we’re sharing easy, repeatable outfit ideas built around warm-weather staples—so getting dressed feels simpler, more stylish, and way less frustrating.
Today, we’re styling a piece that might already be in your closet (or one you’ve been eyeing but weren’t quite sure how to wear): a maxi skirt.
For this example, we’re using a best-selling, reader-favorite in a bold, cheerful color. It’s fun, flattering, and surprisingly versatile—perfect for summer days when you want to feel put-together without overthinking it.
Here’s how to style it three ways.

Start with a Skirt

We’re using this Cotton Poplin Maxi Skirt from Quince, featured here in a bright and cheerful orange—but it’s also available in five other color options if this one isn’t your style.
That said, this formula works with any maxi skirt you have in your closet. Whether it’s printed, neutral, or another bold color, the key is balancing volume with simplicity and adding accessories that reflect your personal style.
How to Style a Maxi Skirt Three Ways
A maxi skirt might seem tricky to style, but it’s surprisingly versatile.
The key is balancing proportions and using simple layers that work together. With just a few easy pieces, you can create completely different looks—perfect for everything from casual days to summer nights out.
Here are three easy outfits to try.

This first outfit mimics the warm glow of a summer sunset with rich, saturated tones from head to toe.
We started with a pretty mango-colored one-shoulder top from Cuyana. The fitted silhouette balances the fullness of the tiered skirt and gives the illusion of a dress—elevated but easy.
Because the outfit itself is simple, the accessories do the talking. We added bold gold drop earrings from Tuckernuck (these are BIG), a sculptural cuff from Madewell, and our go-to best-selling sandals from Jeffery Campbell that add a little edge while still feeling polished. Together, the look is cohesive, elegant, and effortless—perfect for a warm-weather date night or a vacation dinner by the water

This look is a little softer and more playful, perfect for a daytime lunch, casual get-together, or even sightseeing while traveling.
We paired the same bold maxi skirt with a sweet, puff-sleeve white blouse from Boden that is 100% cotton. The crisp white balances the saturated orange beautifully, and the subtle eyelet detailing adds just enough texture and charm.
Accessories here are light and feminine: we added oversized floral earrings for a little drama from Anthro, a simple gold wrap bracelet from Monica Vinader, and a pair of classic Jack Rogers sandals in a soft metallic. The gold finishes keep everything elevated without feeling overdone.
If the first look was bold and modern, this one leans more classic and polished—with just the right amount of personality.

This third outfit is relaxed but intentional—the kind of look you’ll reach for on repeat.
We kept things simple with a white tank , then layered on a cropped denim jacket (not really cropped more short) from Banana Republic for structure and contrast. The clean lines of both pieces balance the volume of the skirt perfectly.
White leather sneakers (these are a $50 steal from DSW) keep the look grounded and comfortable, ideal for days on the go. We added a warm brown crossbody bag that is another best seller from Tuckernuck to bring in a rich, textured neutral and finished it off with small yet sculptural gold hoops from Monica Vinader that add just enough interest.
This look is a great example of how to dress down a statement piece without losing your style. It’s effortless, comfortable, and modern—perfect for everything from errands to coffee dates
A bold maxi skirt doesn’t have to sit in the back of your closet waiting for a special occasion. With the right formula, it can become one of the most-worn pieces in your wardrobe.
