Even though summer officially started a few weeks ago, July has always felt like the real beginning of the season to me. School is finally out, the girls are home, everyone’s settling into a summer rhythm, and it finally feels like we can exhale a little.
The Fourth of July is just a few days away. The bunting is up around town, the forecast is calling for record-breaking heat, and if you’re anything like me, it all sort of snuck up on you. As much as I look forward to summer every year, June was off-the-charts busy. Now, somehow, it’s July, and I’m realizing I could use a few more pairs of shorts, maybe a fresh swimsuit, and a handful of summer basics.
It can all feel like a lot.
But this is also my favorite time of year.
The girls are in and out with friends, our calendar fills up with dinners on patios, afternoons by the pool, weeks at the shore, and those last-minute texts asking if anyone wants to come over. The days are full and flying by. At the same time, there’s always a part of me that wants to slow everything down because I know how quickly it all passes.
Since January, I’ve spent more hours than I can count digging through the back end of The Well Dressed Life and thinking about where I want to take it next.
Maybe it’s the Sagittarius in me, but I need to keep evolving. Lately, I’ve felt like I was ready for the next iteration of this space. Not because I want to change what we do, but because I want to refine how we do it.
I found myself thinking about the magazines I loved growing up.
Every issue had a point of view. Fashion, beauty, home, travel, and food all worked together. You never questioned why an article was there because everything felt connected.
The more I thought about it, the more I realized we’ve been doing a version of that here all along.
I’ve always thought of The Well Dressed Life as a collection of stories that build on one another. A great pair of pants doesn’t just belong in one post. It comes back in outfit ideas, seasonal updates, shopping guides, and real-life styling because that’s how we actually get dressed.
That’s always been the philosophy behind The Well Dressed Life.
I’ve never wanted this to be a site that simply tells you what to buy. I’ve wanted it to help you build a wardrobe. One purchase should lead to ten outfits, not ten more purchases.
The internet has changed a lot since I started this site nearly fifteen years ago. The way we discover content is different. The way we shop is different. But I still believe thoughtful, practical advice has a place. My job is to keep evolving without losing what made this community special in the first place.
Going forward, I simply want to be more intentional about it.
So there are no big changes. You’ll still find the shopping guides, style advice, beauty recommendations, honest product reviews, and the occasional peek behind the scenes. That’s not changing.
What I hope you’ll notice is that each month has its own personality. Think of it like a monthly magazine issue. The content will reflect what’s happening right now: what we’re wearing, what we’re shopping for, what we’re talking about, and what actually makes sense for this point in the year.
My hope is that when you stop by, it feels less like scrolling through a collection of random articles and more like settling in with something you’ve been looking forward to reading.
For July, that means making the most of summer while we’re in it.
We’ll sort through all the “end of summer” sales, cover the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale without getting caught up in the hype, and focus on what’s actually worth buying now. I’ll share the pieces I’ve been reaching for on repeat, beauty that’s holding up in this heat, practical outfits for real life, and plenty of buy-now, wear-now recommendations.
Because despite what the stores would have us believe, there is still so much summer left.
There are beach days ahead, vacations to take, dinners outside, afternoons by the pool, and long evenings with the people we love. There’s no reason to rush into sweaters and boots just because they’re showing up in stores.
I’m excited for what’s ahead this month, and I’m so glad you’re here.
I hope you have a wonderful Fourth of July. I hope you find a little time to slow down, spend time with the people you love, and enjoy everything that makes this season so special.
Here’s to a wonderful July!
