Gap is a classic brand that I think a lot of women over 40 forget about. And I get it. We shopped there as kids and teens, then evolved to other stores as we got older. For a while, the brand lost its footing a bit, and we moved on. But over the last few years they have gone back to what they have always been good at, and it is worth a second look.

The catch is that their website is hard to navigate and their styling can read a bit flat and underwhelming. I’m personally not wear low-rise barrel jeans and a white tank, thank you.

So you might go to the site and hop right off thinking it is not for you. That is exactly why I put this list together. At its core, Gap has always done one thing really well: well-priced basics in natural fabrics. Cotton and linen, cut simply, priced fairly. What makes it especially worth knowing about is the size range — XXS through XXXL, with regular, tall, and petite options across tops. That kind of inclusivity is still rarer than it should be, and it makes Gap a genuinely useful resource for a wide range of women.

First, let’s address the name, this is not really an oversized shirt, and I don’t know why they call it that. It is tailored and structured, just not skin tight. It is more elevated than a tee but still completely casual, and it works with shorts, jeans, or summer trousers without overthinking it. The linen blend keeps it lightweight and easy to wear all day.

The red is striking. It is the color I would reach for first. That said, all the colors are super wearable and worth a look.

One thing to note: within this style there are a variety of washes that change the finish, so just be aware that not all of them have a finished hem. The white option, for example, has a raw hem.
