While we frequently feature Gap Brands, I have never highlighted Gap in What to Buy at.
So today, that’s just what we’re doing.
It’s been a million years since I shopped at Gap, but after seeing some fashion experts on TikTok share their recent purchases, I was intrigued and, as it turns out turns, pleasantly surprised.
It makes sense that Gap would be picking up popularity. They were, after all, THE store in the 90s.
I can still feel the thrill I would get holding their navy drawstring bag and walking around the mall like hot stuff.
But, aside from some baby and toddler clothes, they have been off my radar for decades.
What to Buy at GAP
Modern style draws heavily from the 90s, and I love it because that fashion era was fundamentally based on classic style.
There’s an ease and a casual elegance to it.
It’s not at all fussy. Instead it’s relaxed, practical and cool.
In 1994 I was 15, and while I rocked my low-rise jeans and baby tees, I was drooling over the more sophisticated styling of icons of the time, like Carolyn Basset Kennedy.
Today, my 15-year-old has a closet full of items straight out of Delia’s catalog, and I have happily upgraded to high-waisted jeans and button-downs.
What’s old might be new, and everything may eventually come back in style, but at 40, you probably don’t want to wear what you wore at 15.
So below is a round-up of my top picks from Gap’s new arrivals. A mix of simple silhouettes, in lots of neutrals, with a few pops of col

Crinkle Gauze Tie-Waist Midi Dress
Crinkle Gauze Tie-Waist Midi Dress, $71 Take 30% Off with Code YOURS
I will be living in this dress all spring and summer.
It comes in “pink” above, but it’s really fuchsia, black and white.
Skip the white as it is too see-through for most, and wear your neutral-to-you-undergarments for maximum coverage.
There’s a lot to love about this style; the v-neck is universally flattering, you have a sleeve with no puff, and while it’s a midi which can be awkward, the asymmetrical hem makes it both interesting and flattering.
You can wear this with sporty flats like your Birkenstocks or a feminine kitten heel.
Available in regular, tall and petite, from an XXS – XXL which translates to a 20/22.
Tie-Waist Cami Maxi Dress

Hi-Low Linen-Cotton Tank Dress
Hi-Low Linen-Cotton Tank Dress, $53 Take 30% Off with Code YOURS
The last of our dress recommendations is this simple and versatile linen-cotton tank dress; it’s a lovely option if you don’t like shorts; throw it on, and you’re dressed.
I love the high-low hem; it gives the dress a unique shape and adds a breeziness, plus it’s flattering on your leg.
And it makes a great layer under your denim jacket. Pair with sneakers, slides or sandals.
Available in regular, tall and petite, from an XXS – XXL which translates to a 20/22.
Linen Boyfriend Shirt
Linen Boyfriend Shirt, $60 Take 30% Off with Code YOURS
This is the shirts that peaked my interest when I saw it online.
First of all, I love the color, and if black isn’t your best basic, consider this rich brown.
It’s available in range of colors, including brown, black, white and pretty oxford blue.
You can wear this with any jean, including white jeans, short OR, wear it over a bathing suit.
And remember, it’s 100% line, so it’s going to wrinkle.
Available in regular, tall and petite, from an XXS – XXL which translates to a 20/22.
Boatneck Sweatshirt
Boatneck Sweatshirt, $39 Take 30% Off with Code YOURS
Next, what makes this sweatshirt worth mentioning is the neckline.
It’s rare to see one with an elegant boatneck, so I scooped this up. It’s a bit more finished, and works well with straight leg jeans, leggings, or shorts.
Available in regular, tall and petite, from an XXS – XXL which translates to a 20/22.
Linen Blend Sleeveless Button-Front Shirt
Linen Blend Sleeveless Button-Front Shirt, $50 Take 30% Off with Code YOURS
This simple, sleeveless linen-blend top is a classic 90s style.
Fit-wise, keep in mind this is short, not cropped, but short, and has a bit of swing.
The armholes are also large, so you may want to wear a cami underneath if that makes you uncomfortable.
I like this specifically with high-waist jeans because it creates a pretty balance with the short length of the top.
Color options include black, brown, and white.
Available in regular, tall and petite, from an XXS – XXL which translates to a 20/22.
Linen Blend V-Neck T-Shirt

I like this because it has a flattering v-neck and significant sleeve with 15 color and print options to choose from.
Great to pair with a simple pair of shorts, cropped pants or summer jeans.

I have been loving Gap the last couple years, especially their denim. Some items are downright horrific, but I can always find good basic pieces between some of their utter garbage items. The quality I can find there, when coupled with their deep discount codes (often 40-60% off!) make it a winner for my closet with items that withstand many washings. I also like their workout gear.
