You’d be surprised how much time and effort goes into shooting outfit content. Prepping, shooting, and editing typically takes an entire day, and from that, I usually get one or two usable pieces of content. But I know how helpful it is to see items styled in “real life,” so we’re planning to invest even more resources into this in the new year.
That said, there are still so many pieces I want to share—favorites I wear out and about, spontaneous outfits I pull together, and must-haves that have become best sellers. Today’s look is a perfect example.
Last week marked the start of a whirlwind season. I helped organize a fundraising party for our daughter’s crew team, enjoyed my monthly dinner with my college girlfriends, and attended a fashion show fundraiser at their school—all within five days. It was a hectic week but filled with so much joy.
The fashion show was especially memorable. The seniors took the lead as models, emcees, and backstage assistants (Maddie was an assistant), and they did a phenomenal job. I found myself sitting there in awe—another moment of realizing, wow, it’s senior year. I’ve watched so many of these girls grow up, transforming into poised, smart, and gracious young women.
It feels like the past four years flew by in an instant, yet their growth has been remarkable.
I’m going to be a wreck for the next six months, so bear with me.
Let’s talk outfits! Here’s what I wore—and what Maddie wore, too, since most of her pieces might look familiar from my closet. I’ve been fully embracing my late ’90s aesthetic lately, a decade that holds a special place in my heart because it’s when my love for fashion first took root.
The ’90s were all about effortless cool, blending timeless pieces with a touch of edge, and I’m loving how those trends are making a comeback with a modern twist. It’s been so fun to revisit the styles that originally inspired me while giving them a fresh update that feels true to who I am today.
Keep in mind this photo is from my iPhone.
I had very little time to get ready on Thursday. The event started at 6, so I had to leave around 5:45 and Mad had to be their by 5 … so you know how moms count time backwards.
I didn’t want to wear pants but I also didn’t have a pair of tights to wear with a shorter dress (it was cold out) so I wore this satin maxi skirt I ordered from Amazon and I’m so pleasantly surprised by its quality.
I ordered a small and medium and kept the medium.
It has a flat elastic waistband so it’s comfortable and flattering and a side slit that gives movement but it’s not too high cut.
It’s only $33, available in sizes S – XXL. Obviously I took the black, but the chocolate is gorgeous and the dark green would be beautiful this time of year as well.
I won’t get enough wear out of something like this to spend a lot so this is a fantastic option. The quality is really nice, especially for the price and I’ll be happy to have it on had for a few seasons. It says to hand wash – I’m not doing that. I’ll throw it in delicate and hang to dry.
My sweater is also from Amazon, it’s 100% cotton (the room was crowded and got warm so I’m glad I skiped wool or cashmere) and is currently on a Black Friday Deal for under $20, available in plus sizes too and lots of colors. I took the small and have room.
You might also recognize my accessories!
I carried this absolutely fabulous bag I featured last week, and it’s already selling out in some colors—so grab it now if it’s on your wish list.
And my bracelets, a set of 3 for $16 are super chic. I found them during Amazon Prime Days and they are back on sale for Black Friday.
My boots were such a fantastic find a few seasons ago, and they’re still one of my favorite pieces! They’re from Nine West, and every time I pull them out, I’m so happy to have them.
While many knee-high boots today lean toward a chunkier, heavier style—which definitely has its place—these are the perfect mix of sleek and elegant, with just the right heel height and toe shape.
I did find them, but they are limited. A few sizes are available here on the Nine West website. And I found a VERY similar style by Vince Camuto here in both style and price point that would be a great alternative.
And Maddie is wearing my J.Crew Shrunken Cashmere Sweater, and The Drop’s Jane Pull On High Heel Sock Boot, also on Black Friday Deal for $52.
I have these in both black and brown, and between how often I wear them and how much my older girls borrow them, my cost per wear is in the negative.
Happy Shopping!
