Let’s Talk About the Nordstrom Sale

The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is right around the corner, which means it’s time for me to figure out what coverage will look like this year.

I’ll be covering it. The question is how much coverage it deserves.

For years, the Anniversary Sale was one of the biggest events on my editorial calendar. I’d spend days combing through the preview, building roundups, comparing prices, tracking inventory, and sharing the pieces I thought were genuinely worth considering.

And while I’m getting ready to do it all again, I’ve found myself looking back at my coverage from the last few years.

And maybe I’m just tired, but a lot of it looks the same.

The same brands. The same categories. The same sweaters, boots, jackets, beauty sets, and basics with slightly different names and colors.

Now, maybe that’s just the nature of a good wardrobe. Most of us aren’t reinventing our style every year, nor should we be. But it did make me stop and wonder whether the sale is as exciting as it once was, or if we’ve all gotten into the habit of treating it like an event because that’s what we’ve always done.

Plus, and here’s the kicker, I don’t shop at Nordstrom nearly as much as I used to.

Years ago, Nordstrom was one of my primary retailers. I had top-tier access, knew exactly what was worth buying, and could justify spending days covering the sale because I was shopping there regularly throughout the year.

These days, my shopping is spread across a much wider range of retailers. Between J.Crew, Evereve, Quince, Tuckernuck, and a handful of others, there are simply more places to find great pieces than there were a decade ago.

As a result, I still have early access to the sale, but not the really early access.

And honestly, I’m not even sure how much that matters anymore.

Retail has changed dramatically. Sales happen constantly. Brands run promotions year-round. Many of the categories that used to make the Nordstrom Sale feel special can now be found at similar prices throughout the season if you’re willing to wait a few weeks.

I’ve changed, too.

These days, I’m much more focused on buying with intention. I want pieces that fill a genuine need in my wardrobe, not something I purchase simply because it’s marked down.

At the same time, I know many readers still look forward to the sale every year. For some, it’s the best time to stock up on beauty favorites. Others wait for shoes, denim, bras, outerwear, or investment pieces that rarely go on sale.

Key 2026 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Dates

  • Sale Preview: July 6
  • Icon Early Access: July 14–17
  • Ambassador Early Access: July 15–17
  • Influencer Early Access (All Cardholders): July 16–17
  • Public Access: July 18 – August 9
  • Prices Go Back Up: August 10

So before I start digging through the preview and deciding what coverage will look like this year, I’d love to hear from you.

Are you planning to shop the sale?

If so, what are you hoping to find?

Are there specific categories you’d like me to focus on?

Do you want a comprehensive guide covering everything worth considering, or would you prefer a more curated approach that focuses only on the pieces I genuinely think stand out?

And if you’ve stopped shopping the sale altogether, I’d love to hear why.

As always, my goal is to create content that’s actually useful. If I’m going to spend hours combing through thousands of products, I’d rather know what you’re looking for than make assumptions.

Leave a comment and let me know where you stand on the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale these days.

I’m genuinely curious.

I’m interested in high quality basics that stand the test of time AND fashion cycles. Primarily casual looks that work for every day or can be transitioned to casual evenings out. More curated pieces, particularly if they work together. I wouldn’t worry about hitting every category. And if you find yourself stretching to find something, ANYTHING, you think will work, don’t. Just tell us it isn't worth it. Will save you and us a lot of time.

I will shop the sale for good buys on premium denim, sneakers, good quality bras and underwear and Nordstrom brand cashmere. These are the only areas I spend at Nordstrom anymore. The savings in these areas for the quality and cost per wear you get is outstanding. Beauty is ok but I'm generally just repeat buying my routine items and paying full price at sephora these days

I used to live for this sale but I agree it's not what it used to be. The store as a whole isn't what it used to be, as another commenter said. It makes me sad. I usually peruse the sale for anything special but I don't think I've purchased from it in the last 5 years. I always look at beauty and handbags but beyond that it has been lacking for me.

Nordstrom is not the store it used to be. I won’t even consider this store anymore.

Hi, I was a counter manager for Lancome at Nordstrom in Orange County CA, in the 80’s, where people would line up around the building for the sale. Before you could even pre-sale the sale. It was amazing. Literally THE SHOPPING EVENT of the SEASON. It was special. I no longer work for Nordstrom, I am a regional makeup artist with Lancome and travel throughout the South East for events. None of the stores are doing well. I only shop brick and mortar if I need something special. I prefer Dillards now to Nordstrom. I won’t even go to The Rack, their stuff is just junk. It is sad. Retail is not at all what it used to be. Just my two cents:) have a great day, I love your blog. Thanks, Kate

I like to shop beauty products that I can buy in bulk (well, maybe 2 or 3)😄

Hi Megan, I always appreciate any information you send, but I do not shop the Nordstrom sale like I used to. I just am not that excited about what I find there and I don't anticipate the sale any more. Maybe it's because my life has gotten more casual? I do love a cute top or jacket that looks unique for an evening out, wine tasting or an event. Maybe I just need to update my "usual" go to places. I don't really shop at Kohls or Amazon anymore either. I guess you just helped me make it a mission to find other shops that make it fun to buy clothes again.

I don't think I ended up buying anything last year. I'm most interested in shoes and premium denim (though usually the colors and styles of denim they put in the sale are not what I want!)

I appreciate you asking the question. I typically buy beauty sets (Aribe products, etc) and items that are unique and stand out. I also try to buy better basics that are on sale. So, my preference is that you highlight: truly unique pieces in a variety of price points, “better” basics on sale and on-sale beauty products that you recommend. It’s easier to try something new and out of your comfort range when it’s on sale and recommended. Thanks!

I do love your coverage because it's very honest!

I'd love denim and bras (especially for the top heavy folks).

While I agree that Nordstrom has changed over the years, I do still shop there--and always appreciate your take on the sale. Some areas I'd be interested in: fitness/yoga wear, shoes, fall basics, denim, sweaters. Thank you for being a great guide to all things fashion and beauty!

I really liked your coverage of the sale. I typically would not have shopped the sale but I did last year and loved the purchases thanks to your guidance. Yes, do it.

I do shop the sale. Always looking for the contemporary brands I don’t often splurge on , at a better price. I am limited as I live in CA and the winters here are mild, and our overall dress tends to be very casual.

I don’t shop it any more. Same boring items some made for the sale cheaply and they fall apart fast. It’s just not inspired and I’ve talked to lots of women who feel the same way. It’s too bad.

I don’t shop at Nordstrom very often. Just the highlights would be great

I rarely shop at Nordstrom these days except for bras and some shoes. Since moving to Texas last year, I don't need boots/jeans/coats every year. I shop more at local boutiques and smaller online retailers these days.

Like you, I have been buying less and less from Nordstrom. My summer vacay purchases were all from Quince! I would love a “best items” only critique from you. (Just like the one you did this week from Ever Eve! Thanks so much for asking.

Hi, You and I are on the same page...the sale over the last few years seems tired and lackluster. The sale used to curate high end quality brands and statement pieces at a deep discount that would have a shopper wanting to shop the sale.. Now their sale is boring and doesn't have the wow factor shoppers came to expect from Nordstrom. I think many retailers are having to reset their brand and Nordstrom might be in need of a refresh ....a good polish.

I haven’t purchased much from Nordstrom- mostly just shoes. I usually buy the slip pillowcases during the annual sale.

I find that most other the items I'm interested in sell out before I can shop. I tend to lean toward coats, bags, shoes. I also find that I shop at Nordstrom less, and that Evereve is also one of my favorite stores now. Thanks for all of your great posts!

I rarely go into Nordstroms now. I would love a more curated approach. By the time I can shop as a cardholder, most things are sold out that I want. Categories I am interested in are bras and (knee high) boots. Thanks Megan!

Hi Megan! Love your wardrobe help. Not really needing much but I would love another well priced pair of Veronica Beard Ankle Booties. I purchased them 3 years ago at the Nordstrom Sale and I love them. So comfortable. No break in needed. I wore them all over France in May. I would love another pair.

I sort of shop the sale. I can’t get too breathless about it, as I find these days I’m trying to curate my wardrobe much as you do. I look at a category only if I need to buy something (boots, a raincoat), but to wade through countless sweaters and semi-costume jewelry is a waste of time, and in past years led to buying just so it would feel like I -wasn’t- wasting time. Interestingly, I often find “sold out” merchandise by brands I go for, like Vince, hanging out a Nordstrom Rack a few weeks after the sale, at prices better than the sale. I think it might be all the returns ending up there. I honestly don’t care whether you cover it or not. I read you regardless :).

I felt the same about the sale last year…same items, same brands, etc. I would prefer a more curated approach and my personal interests this year would be handbags, belts, and good quality for the price jewelry. It seems the clothing and shoes end up being available at sale prices shortly after the sale ends, so I don’t feel like I miss out if I wait. Thank you! I really enjoy your content and have been a follower for years.

Hi Megan, I enjoy the sale and usually spend most at Nordstroms during that time. I focus on shoes, boots, higher end items that are on sale, bras, accessories and am usually happy with what I buy. I agree that basics are good to purchase during the sale, but would love your insights on what might be the best quality and value for the price and cost per wear. Thanks so much for providing this content!
