Memorial day is one weekend away, marking the “official” start of summer.
Crazy, right? Another year that is flying by.
Whether you’re headed to the beach, opening up the pool or going to a casual BBQ, let’s get you dressed.
3 Memorial Day Weekend Outfits
For these looks we’re sharing some favorites you already have and a few new pieces that you can add to your wardrobe rotation all summer long.
The beauty of having basics that are right for you, is that creating outfits becomes so much easier. And then, when you pick up a seasonal or novelty piece they fit in seamlessly.
Shorts
Classic Chino Shorts, $20 | Scoop Neck Cotton Tee, $25 | Tan Sandals, $59 | Web Strap Crossbody, $57
Let’s start with shorts, at whatever length you prefer.
I’m of the opinion that age should have nothing to do with whether you wear shorts or not.
I’m also of the opinion that no one has “nice looking” knees so trying to cover them up is silly.
But, of course, wear what works for you.
We are big fans of the J.Crew Chino Short. The one featured above our from J.Crew Factory. They are similar to the original J. Crew pair. There is little difference except J.Crew has more size options. Pricing can be similar when they are on promotion.
Next, when I wear a 5″ short, I like to balance it with a long or 3/4 sleeve top. Do so just makes the look more polished. This Scoop Neck Cotton Tee, is only $25 at Nordstrom.
Then, these cute tan sandals giving a fresh take on the woven trend and this chic crossbody bag that reminds me of a Claire V.

A Dress
Tied Neck Dress, $81 | Leather Sneakers, $150 | Pearl Hoops, $103 | Faux Leather Tote Bag, $13
These tiered dresses are everywhere, from better designers to Amazon. They are like a dressed up version of a tee shirt dress. Which you could absolutely wear too.
For this look, I would untie the neck and leave it open so it’s not so fussy.
This one is by DKNY available at Macy’s in blue and navy.
Then, I found these Veja sneakers with navy and red detail and had to feature them. They are not the most practical choice, but, it’s not always about being practical.
For accessories, we’re keeping them small and simple because the dress has a lot going on. These small hoops with pearl detail are sweet. And if you have to lug a lot around like I do, this faux leather tote from Amazon has been a top reader favorite.
White Bottoms
Chambray Shirt, $59 | Tencel-Linen Pants, $100 | Jacks Flip Flops, $128 | Cork Clutch, $46
Finally, some white linen pants paired with a short sleeve chambray shirt is lovely. Skip the shirt however if you have fuller arms as the arm wholes are on the small side.
The pants are from Banana Republic and get rave reviews. I like that they are a linen, cotton, tencel blend so you’ll get drape and less wrinkles.
Available in black, tan and white, in regular tall and petite.
You could also pair this with the popular J.Crew gauze top in navy.
Then, I use to have so many pairs of Jack Rogers, so I’m happy to see them gaining popularity again. They are a classic summer shoe. Featured above in white, they go with pretty much any summer outfit.
And then I added this fun cork clutch because, I love the combination of a formal shape with a casual material. You can grab this on Amazon for under $50 here.
