Thank you for your blog and for adding direct links! I’ve picked up a few great pieces. My question is about shorts. Is there an age limit on them? They all seem so short, would you recommend some longer options? – Beth
I love shorts, but finding a flattering pair feels impossible. I dislike putting an age limit on an article of clothing. However, I would draw a hard line at those crazy denim shorts that are so short the pocket lining hangs out. They are ridiculous. Ridiculous. I don’t care how fabulous your legs look. Unless you are shopping in the juniors department, because you are in fact a junior, leave that look for the kids. Otherwise, you look like you are trying too hard.
Other than that, there two things to look for: length and leg opening. You should be able to sit in them, without having to pull and tug at yourself every 3 seconds.Best bet is at least a 5″ – 7″ inseam. When you try them on, pay attention to the leg opening. If it is digging into your leg, like a rubber band, do not buy them.
These shorts by LOFT have a 6″ inseam, come in every color imaginable, and come in a size 00 – 18. They’re also 50% off making them under $20. Plus sized? These Old Navy have a 7″ inseam and fit beautifully.
I can’t stand flip flops. The thong between my toe makes me crazy! Can you recommend an alternative that can serve the same purpose. Thanks!– Connie
This is a common question this time of year. Instead of a flip flop, look for a slider. You’ll get the same look and casual feel and be more comfortable.Just be sure you don’t go with something that looks like a Birkenstock 🙂 I like these white sliders from ASOS. I also really like these black sliders by Topshop.
Thank you for including plus size options in your posts. I am a size 18 and am looking for a cocktail dress for the end of the summer. Any suggestions? – Amy
There are a few really pretty options available right now. If you are headed to the mall, our stylists love Nordstrom’s Women’s department. They have a lovely selection and you can get your alterations done at the same time. It’s a beautiful thing. This blush and metallic dress is trend right with very flattering beadwork. Want something flirty? This black metallic full skirted dress is so gorgeous . I like this sparkly number by Eliza J, but not using a full figured model is annoying.
