Let’s Talk About the Nordstrom Sale

The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is right around the corner, which means it’s time for me to figure out what coverage will look like this year.

I’ll be covering it. The question is how much coverage it deserves.

For years, the Anniversary Sale was one of the biggest events on my editorial calendar. I’d spend days combing through the preview, building roundups, comparing prices, tracking inventory, and sharing the pieces I thought were genuinely worth considering.

And while I’m getting ready to do it all again, I’ve found myself looking back at my coverage from the last few years.

And maybe I’m just tired, but a lot of it looks the same.

The same brands. The same categories. The same sweaters, boots, jackets, beauty sets, and basics with slightly different names and colors.

Now, maybe that’s just the nature of a good wardrobe. Most of us aren’t reinventing our style every year, nor should we be. But it did make me stop and wonder whether the sale is as exciting as it once was, or if we’ve all gotten into the habit of treating it like an event because that’s what we’ve always done.

Plus, and here’s the kicker, I don’t shop at Nordstrom nearly as much as I used to.

Years ago, Nordstrom was one of my primary retailers. I had top-tier access, knew exactly what was worth buying, and could justify spending days covering the sale because I was shopping there regularly throughout the year.

These days, my shopping is spread across a much wider range of retailers. Between J.Crew, Evereve, Quince, Tuckernuck, and a handful of others, there are simply more places to find great pieces than there were a decade ago.

As a result, I still have early access to the sale, but not the really early access.

And honestly, I’m not even sure how much that matters anymore.

Retail has changed dramatically. Sales happen constantly. Brands run promotions year-round. Many of the categories that used to make the Nordstrom Sale feel special can now be found at similar prices throughout the season if you’re willing to wait a few weeks.

I’ve changed, too.

These days, I’m much more focused on buying with intention. I want pieces that fill a genuine need in my wardrobe, not something I purchase simply because it’s marked down.

At the same time, I know many readers still look forward to the sale every year. For some, it’s the best time to stock up on beauty favorites. Others wait for shoes, denim, bras, outerwear, or investment pieces that rarely go on sale.

Key 2026 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Dates

  • Sale Preview: July 6
  • Icon Early Access: July 14–17
  • Ambassador Early Access: July 15–17
  • Influencer Early Access (All Cardholders): July 16–17
  • Public Access: July 18 – August 9
  • Prices Go Back Up: August 10

So before I start digging through the preview and deciding what coverage will look like this year, I’d love to hear from you.

Are you planning to shop the sale?

If so, what are you hoping to find?

Are there specific categories you’d like me to focus on?

Do you want a comprehensive guide covering everything worth considering, or would you prefer a more curated approach that focuses only on the pieces I genuinely think stand out?

And if you’ve stopped shopping the sale altogether, I’d love to hear why.

As always, my goal is to create content that’s actually useful. If I’m going to spend hours combing through thousands of products, I’d rather know what you’re looking for than make assumptions.

Leave a comment and let me know where you stand on the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale these days.

I’m genuinely curious.

Please cover the sale, Nordstrom has been making an effort as of late! I'm looking for one of a kind special items that will sell out fast. Tory boots, special Cinq a Sept item, Mother jeans, Veronica Beard blazer of the season...Also, makeup and skincare specials. Private label cashmere, sportswear...

Howdy from Texas… I am always searching for petites for my very petite self… I am 5’ but have curves and tiny arms. Also, since I live in Texas where it’s still basically summer until Halloween, some great transitional items would be appreciated. There are no major stores near me and boutiques generally don’t work. I live in a college town so you can easily guess what’s in the boutiques! Flirty! Cute! Cheap but expensive! Trendy! Ruffles! Puffy sleeves! Large prints! Best of luck and congratulations on your daughter’s team victory in Florida!

I plan to stock up on things I know I will wear like underwear and pajamas or use like beauty products I always repurchase. If a certain hair tool I need to replace goes on sale, then I'd love it, but otherwise I'm trying to refrain from too much shopping.

I know this may be a niche request, but I would love to see some formal options. Perhaps a number of us in a certain age bracket are starting to have children getting married and need MOG/MOB wedding dresses and less formal, but still a cut-above-workwear, for surrounding events. Thanks!

I agree with you that a lot of the Nordstrom Sale looks the same from year-to-year. The same brands. The same categories. The same sweaters, boots, jackets, and beauty sets with slightly different names and colors. Plus, it seems EVERY fashion influencer covers it. Honestly? After 7 or 8 years, I'm kind of over the Nordstrom sale and I more or less tune out now. Maybe I've just found other things out in the world that interest me more. Thank you for asking the question, though.

I won’t be shopping the sale this year. Last year I shopped for a winter coat and probably ended up trying eight different mid-price and what I consider main stream brand coats. The quality just wasn’t there. Because of need, I ended up settling on one but it will be replaced as soon as I find something, probably from a smaller vendor. The last couple years the sale has felt like old or repeat items. No sparkle.

I look forward to your coverage on the Nordstrom Sale and enjoy your recommendations at other stores like Evereve and Quince. Interested in Vionic shoes and Warcoal bras on sale!

I’ll be shopping the sale! Looking for quality pieces to update my fall/winter wardrobe for work and casual. Less interested in beauty, jewelry, and housewares. If you decide to preview it, I’ll be following and grateful!

Curated approach to the Nordstrom sale. I don’t buy as much from the sale as I used to, but I always look forward to it.

I bought a pair of wide leg jeans. I ordered a few things online and took most of them back, I did get a red peacoat featured in the sale but months later since my size sold out before I had access. It’s not the event it used to be. Part of that is because my life has changed. I don’t work in an office, or at all! Happily retired. Honestly I don’t shop much anymore. I have all I need.

Wish I could say Nordstrom’s sale has me excited but I don’t shop them much these days. Going in-store is futile as there is little stock and there are much better options elsewhere. I vote for a very tightly curated list of your top 10 picks in fashion, no interest in home goods, men’s, or kids. I know what beauty items I’ll typically pickup and guessing most people are the same. Save your sanity.

I barely shop at Nordstrom anymore. It’s really just down to the shoe department each season and even that is pretty disappointing. I’ve found other online shops (some recommended by you) and I sew some of my clothing now.

I don’t even think to shop at Nordstrom any more, though 20 yrs ago I was a huge fan & spent a lot of $ there (my business suit collection was once impressive). The inventory simply doesn’t fit my needs or interests. That said, with the family having reacquired the company and taken it back to being privately held rather than publicly traded, I hold out hope that perhaps they can find either its old magic or perhaps some new and improved magic.

Thanks for asking. I’m only interested in well made, workhorse items. We appreciate all you do.

I am planning to shop the sale again this year. For the past couple of years I have changed the way I shop the Anniversary sale. I have a few higher end brands that I love and use the sale to purchase strategic items that will have longevity my wardrobe - Varley casual wear, a great pair of denim, a high end sweater in natural fibers, a great coat (I haven't found one for the past couple years), a beautiful pair of shoes....What I don't purchase is the trendy items that don't seem to be made as well as I remember. I appreciate the insights, but don't feel the need for a multipoint/multiweek overview.

I always shop the Nordstrom sale but end up returning over half of what I buy. This year I am looking for shoes with arch support, new waterproof and comfortable boots to wear with jeans, a new purse, maybe a fresh blazer and some new workout clothes. I don't need much these days as I am retired.

All of the influencers blog about the sale and it gets to be overkill. I like Nordstrom shoes but don’t shop there for much else. Please don’t go overboard with it like others do.

As you and others have said, Nordstrom and the quality is not what it used to be. I didn't end up purchasing anything from the sale the last 2 years mostly because the things I really wanted were sold out well before it was my turn to shop. And I agree with you that it looks like it's the same things from year to year. I'm much more interested in shopping my closet and putting outfits together with the pieces you've recommended previously like your 3 ways to wear it posts. I really appreciate the time and effort you put into your curations.

I may shop the sale, but at this point my wardrobe foundation is solid. What I’m really looking for are a few elevated additions that feel modern and directional. Reliable insight into F/W ’26–’27 trends is scarce, so I’d love for you to zero in on the pieces that will define the season. I’m considering a handbag with real longevity, jewelry that updates my look without overwhelming it, and a pair of black pants with the kind of versatility that works from day to evening.

Hi, Megan, I am hopeful that the repurchase of Nordstrom by the Nordstrom family in May 2025 will eventually right the ship that I believe has foundered over the last decade. Nordstrom used to be the place for shoes, handbags and affordable luxury. If I want Margaux shoes, I will buy directly from Margaux. If I am looking for a good deal on Veronica Beard, I always check Veronica Beard’s website first. There are so many excellent direct to consumer brands and online boutiques that now that offer free shipping both ways that Nordstrom has lost its luster for me. And the few items I really wanted last year sold out before my access level. All of your hard work curating the sale is truly appreciated. But, I would be thrilled with a highly curated analysis with only the best of the best recommendations.

Nordstrom has always been my “happy place”. This sale used to be called the “Pre-season” sale and I used to look forward to it because I LOVE Fall clothes. However, I agree with you, it is not what it used to be. I see the same boots/bags/sweaters from the same brands every year. I mainly look for my favorite bras/underwear (Natori/Hanky Panky) and a few seasonal pieces to refresh my wardrobe. I would love to see a curated approach, covering the best deals on basics + the standout pieces.

Jennie

Thursday 18th of June 2026

I’m interested in high quality basics that stand the test of time AND fashion cycles. Primarily casual looks that work for every day or can be transitioned to casual evenings out. More curated pieces, particularly if they work together. I wouldn’t worry about hitting every category. And if you find yourself stretching to find something, ANYTHING, you think will work, don’t. Just tell us it isn't worth it. Will save you and us a lot of time.

I will shop the sale for good buys on premium denim, sneakers, good quality bras and underwear and Nordstrom brand cashmere. These are the only areas I spend at Nordstrom anymore. The savings in these areas for the quality and cost per wear you get is outstanding. Beauty is ok but I'm generally just repeat buying my routine items and paying full price at sephora these days
