Thank you Talbots for sponsoring this post.
This time of year always puts me in a romantic mood. I imagine an afternoon spent wandering in and out of shops, picking up thoughtful gifts, savoring a warm drink, and ending the day with a cozy dinner.
I often talk about viewing an outfit as a complete look, from base layers to finishing touches. When the weather cools, a stylish outer layer is essential, especially for those days when you’re in and out of stores and holiday activities. Today’s featured look from Talbots captures this perfectly.
We love Talbots for its quality and size-inclusive collections, and this season, their rich layers and luxe fabrics are truly shining. This particular outfit might be my favorite this season—perfect for a day out, whether it’s lunch with friends or running holiday errands. Talbots pieces are not only beautiful but exceptionally wearable.
I’m thrilled to share two versatile looks today, both built from the same base pieces and elevated with two standout layers you’ll reach for year after year.
Chic Fall Layered Looks with Talbots
Base Layer
Most of my elevated casual looks in the cool weather start with this base, a simple sweater and a pair of jeans.
Here I’m wearing the Soft Cable Knit Crewneck Sweater in ivory. This cotton-blend sweater is a lovely option if you want a sweater but run warm. It’s light, but substantial and the cable knit and button shoulder detail elevate it enough so it feels complete even without an additional layer.
I paired it with their Flare Leg Jean which looks and feels like a trouser jean. Available in sizes 2 – 24 in Misses, Petite, Plus and Plus Petite.
I’m 5’10 and wearing the size 6 in the jeans and small in the sweater.
Here’s a close-up of the sweater, which comes in nine beautiful colors. The texture adds fantastic visual interest, instantly elevating even the simplest look with a touch of sophistication.
Available in XS – 3X in Misses, Petite, Plus and Plus Petite.
Luxe Vest
For the first outfit, I added their Quilted Down Puffer Vest, and it is divine.
Here I’m wearing it in navy, but it’s also available in black and red, in XS – 3X (I took the small.)
It is, without question, the nicest vest I’ve ever put on my body, and I wear vests frequently.
What I love the most about it is the high – low hem. It is just so slightly longer in the back, giving it an elegant drape.
I’m in the small, and it fits well over a thinner knit like the Soft Cable Knit Crewneck Sweater, but I have room for something chunkier.
I’m absolutely obsessed and plan to wear this on repeat. It’s a rare, timeless classic at an incredible price, offering style and durability you’ll enjoy for years to come.
Bouclé Peacoat
For a colder day, when your outside as much as you are inside, I think it’s important to consider your outerwear. And this is when I make the coat the standout piece.
Bouclé Double Breasted Peacoat is as stunning as it is practical.
It’s a significant piece, fully lined, with lovely weight that feels good on, and deep, functioning pockets.
With speckles of shades of blue, it pairs wonderfully with any shade of denim but looks extra nice with a dark rinse or medium wash.
Available in XS – 3X in Misses, Petite and Plus, I took the small and have room for a thicker layer.
