What to Wear on a Hot Summer Day with Talbots

Thank You, Talbots, for sponsoring this post

I was in New York late last month for the day. It was as hot as the sun so I wanted to wear an outfit that was polished but comfortable. I grabbed an old shirt dress in my closet, and it was perfect.

It prompted me to go on the hunt for a few moresomething that is easy to throw on but looks like you put in some effort and doesn’t cling in the heat.

So I shopped at Talbots Semi-Annual Red Door Sale, where you can get 40% off markdowns, and found a head-to-toe outfit that was exactly what I wanted and at a fantastic price.

We love Talbots for their quality, size-inclusive array of merchandise, and right now you can find buy now, wear now pieces that will help round out your warm weather wardrobe.

Let me show you what I found: a classic lightweight linen dress with a pretty seasonal bag and block heeled sandals that are not only chic but shockingly comfortable.

A simple linen shirt dress is the epitome of hot weather, one-step dressing and you can go anywhere in this. From a lunch with friends, a dinner out, a baby or bridal shower, even work.

Available in Misses, Petite and Plus, I am 5’10 and wearing the 8.

Note: If you need to shorten the skirt, a hem would be an easy alteration that you could get done at your local dry cleaner.

I love that it has pockets and the belt ties a nice bow.

But, if you want to change it up you can remove it and add a leather belt.

Then I found these quilted leather block heel sandals and they are heaven. The braid detail adds just the right amount of texture to make them feel special.

I’m a big fan of a block heel, I find them so much easier to walk in and these happen to be incredibly comfortable. Plus, I love this tan color they are calling “Havana.” Also available in black, indigo and pink.

You can really see the detail of the shoes here. I highly recommend, especially since they are currently an extra 50% off.

Finally, to finish the look I found this versatile crossbody bag. Above I tucked the straps in to make it a clutch.

You got me, Megan! I just bought the entire outfit. It is exactly what I've needed as I transition into my new role as a Professor.

I ordered the sandals in both black and tan. Can't wait to get them. A few years back you recommended a suede braided block-heel sandal that I bought and wore forever! I've been looking for something similar and these will be great. The style is so versatile. Thanks for finding them!

I have always loved Talbots because their pants and shirts had the length I needed because I am tall-ish. And the quality is good too. I have a couple of pairs of their side-zip, no waistband slacks (I think they were called "Hollywood") that I purchased in the 90s. Still fashionable and still look good. Great source for cashmere too.
