Over the past few years, the Nordstrom Sale has been so-so. But this year, it’s pretty good and an opportunity to stock up on basics you love, fill in some wardrobe voids, and maybe pick up a splurge at a better price.
The sale, however, is utterly overwhelming, and there’s a lot of stuff you don’t need. I spent the weekend combing through every single item in every single category until my eyes hurt.
To cover the scope of the sale, I take three days to highlight specific categories. I started doing this last year, and readers like the organized approach.
I do the work for you so you can take advantage of the special pricing without spending a ton of time searching.
Tomorrow I’m sharing top Workwear, Reader Favorites, and Splurges.
Then, on Friday, I’ll wrap things up with Beauty, Jewelry, and Bags.
If you are new to our site, welcome! What you’ll notice is that I don’t do a big try-on haul showing off my purchases. This is because I don’t find that kind of post helpful. Instead, my recommendations are both data-driven and based on all your requests.
As always, all sizes are included when available.
When Can You Shop
To overcomplicate things, Nordstrom restricts initial access to cardholders who are further broken down by category. If you have a Nordstrom Card, you can log into your account to see your status. The more you spend, the earlier your access.
Non-cardholders can start shopping on July 28th.
If you can’t shop just yet, I recommend creating a “Wish List” on the Nordstrom site. This way, once you have access, you can flip everything into your shopping cart. By design, the sale is meant to sell out, and it does, every year.
This year, your best bet is to shop online. Unfortunately, their in-store inventory is sparse. And if you do place an order, have some patience; if last year repeats itself, we’re not dealing with Amazon-type shipping.
Please remember, unlike some sites, I am not affiliated or sponsored by Nordstrom. I do, however, receive a tiny commission if you purchase through one of the links below. All opinions are mine.
Let’s get started.
The Nordstrom Sale
Wit & Wisdom, Ab-Solution High Waist Itty Bitty Bootcut Jeans, $49 | SPANX Perfect Pants, $89 | Halogen, Raw Edge Tank, $28 | Treasure & Bond, Turtleneck Sweater, $39 | Wacoal Convertible Strapless Bra, $39
Wit & Wisdom, Ab-Solution High Waist Itty Bitty Bootcut Jeans, $49 – a fantastic option to replace skinny jeans. No that there is anything wrong with a skinny, this one, also by Wit & Wisdom is a long-time Reader Fave and part of the sale.
I picked up these Good American jeans for the early fall,
SPANX Perfect Pants, $89 – these were a top Reader Fave in 2020, perfect for work or weekends.
Halogen, Raw Edge Tank, $28 – love this raw edge tank, in black or white as a basic layer under long cardigans and blazers.
Treasure & Bond, Turtleneck Sweater, $39 – I would own this sweater in every color, makes the perfect base for a jeans/sweater/booties fall outfit.
Underwear – for the first time the sale has a fantastic selection of undergarments, starting with the always popular Wacoal Red Carpet Strapless Bra for under $40. Also, the Wacoal No-Wire Contour Bra is a nice everyday “tee shirt” bra on sale for $42.
I’m a big fan of Hanky-Panky underwear, usually the neutral colors are not included in the sale but they are this time around so I stocked up.
Finally, I discovered True & Co last year and this bralette is the most comfortable bra for working at home – ever.
LAUREN RALPH LAUREN, Snap Front Quilted Jacket, $99 | Halogen, Knit Moto Jacket, $58 | Club Monaco, Maite Trench Coat, $195 |Barbour, Sterndale Quilted Jacket, $133 | The North Face, Ancha Hooded Waterproof Parka, $150
If you are in the market for a new coat, this is one of the best categories in the sale. The selection is a bit overwhelming on their site, so I picked the best of the best.

Tory Burch Chelsea 50MM Lug Boot, $250 | Treasure & Bond, Nova Mule, $39 | Sam Edelman, Olly Knee High Boot, $149| Sarto by Franco Sarto Lori Bootie, $99 | Vince Camuto, Gradina Block Heel Bootie, $59 | Adidas, Edge Lux 4 Running Shoes, $56
From new sneakers to classic fall booties, check these out before you look anywhere else.
Tory Burch Chelsea 50MM Lug Boot, $250 – if you’re looking for a splurge worth fall boot, take another look at these. Available in black or tan. (These are in my shopping cart in the tan!)
Treasure & Bond, Nova Mule, $39 – available in tan, black and a speckled leopard, these are super affordable and look great with straight or skinny pants.
Sam Edelman, Olly Knee High Boot, $149 – by early fall a classic, clean lined knee boot is almost impossible to find, so scoop this up in either black or light stone so you’re ready the second the weather changes.
Sarto by Franco Sarto Lori Bootie, $99 – the most basic leather ankle boot for under $100 is always hard to find. Here you can buy it in black, taupe or chestnut.
Vince Camuto, Gradina Block Heel Bootie, $59 – for a little more style go with this Vince Camuto option in either black or tan. These go with straight and skinny bottoms or even skirts and dresses.
Adidas, Edge Lux 4 Running Shoes, $56 – my favorite affordable running sneakers are under $60 and available in either black and white or copper and pearl.
