Wear to Work: Print Pants

WeartoWorkSo many of our clients are calling the office to book their summertime shopping appointments. One of the fun parts about working with a client over so many years is being able to get them to try some new things. It’s easier when she already has the basics covered. This month, we’re hearing many clients ask for more variety, more “fun” pieces that can pull double duty at work and on the weekends in the warmer months. One piece we keeping going to is a printed pant.

Be discriminating about the kind of pattern you pick. Avoid overly loud and bold patterns as they will overpower the look. For this post, we kept it black and white. Think of any of these pattern options as a neutral. When the pattern is black and white, you can go simple with all black or all white items or, add a pop of color. For this set, I’m using these fun and funky Lafayette 148 pants. They are more expensive than the other options listed. I find the quality and fit, Lafayette 148 is worth every penny. We also found a less expensive version in this NYDJ pant that comes in Missy, Petite, Plus, and Plus Petite. (So thank you to them for knowing that women come in all shapes and sizes.)

How To Wear Printed PantsKey Piece:  Lafayette 148 New York Stanton Printed Pants, $348

Left: Vince Camuto Stretch Cotton One-Button Blazer, $150 (Plus size option here);  Rebecca Taylor Erin Seamless Tank, $50; Zara Bowling Bag, $80; Ivanka Trump Lagrand Leather Flats, $70;  White House Black Market Womens Golden Metal Collar Necklace, $45; B. Brilliant Black Cubic Zirconia Stud Earrings, $40

Right: Diane von Furstenberg Gilmore Silk Blouse, $173; Alexander Wang Marion Rose Gold Shoulder Bag, $675; Vince Camuto ‘Kiley’ Peep Toe Platform Pump, $120; By Malene Birger Hacia Cut Out Cuff, $169; Alexandra Beth Designs Sydney Stud Earrings, $45

Black, white and gold is a classic combination. One of the simplest ways to look pulled together is by having your jewelry match the hardware on your shoe and bag. These days almost everything is done in gold. If you can’t wear/don’t like gold, go ahead and wear silver or silvertone, and keep an eye out for shoes and bags with no metal hardware.

Left: A simple cotton blazer is a warm weather must have and a fantastic alternative to a cardigan. You can keep your under piece simple with a seamless tank or use anything you already have in your closet. It can be cotton, silk or a blend. For shoes, I found these Ivanka Trump flats that are playful yet appropriate for work. If you love flats, check out her selection. They are comfortable, well priced and wear well. A simple bag from Zara is one of my go-tos for the summer. I tend to rotate my bags in the summer more than in the winter so having some variety that is affordable is necessary. To round out the look we found these classic black stud earrings and a very cool and modern necklace that will sit beautifully underneath the jacket collar.

Right: For more casual offices or an after hours work function, add a bright blouse in a solid color. I have a few of these DVF blouses and wear them all the time. They are the simplest piece to throw on with dress pants or jeans. These blouses from Polo Ralph Lauren are a less expensive alternative and come in a variety of colors. Because the sleeves are 3/4 length, add a bold cuff. I love the mix of high sheen and matte gold in this piece. I also found a simple earring that plays off the matte gold in the bracelet. If you are looking for an appropriate peep toe for the summer, look no further than these Vince Camuto pumps. They come in a few color options and go with just about everything. Finally, I couldn’t resist this Alexander Wang bag. It’s so stunning that I might start dreaming of it. While I have absolutely no need for it, maybe someone out there reading this does?

Additional Pant Option: NYDJ Celia Ankle Trouser, $130 (Avilable in Missy, Plus and Plus Petite)
