Something about these plaid pants made me immediately excited for the holidays and filled with preppy happiness. They feel festive enough for an after work celebration (think casual Christmas cocktails with colleagues) yet polished enough to take to the office with a blazer and professional shoe. For today’s post, I incorporated some of the most popular items we featured in October, to show you how to wear these fun pants with items you may have already purchased.

Chilly Office Day

Take these pants to the office by toning them down with better navy basics. Sure, you could find a cranberry colored top to pull the color from the plaid, but that felt too forced. Instead, this lovely navy jacket from last month (that many of you purchased) is ideal. If you’re like me and always on the look out for better layering pieces, this short sleeve navy sweater will keep you warm in the cold months without adding bulk to your look.

When you are working with a bold pattern, use classic, tailored pieces to create balance and make the look sophisticated. The jacket is nice weight so I wanted to find a necklace that would stand up to it. I love this tassel necklace that looks substantial without being heavy. For under $40 you’ll get your money out of it in just one season.

For the bag and shoe, simple yet updated is the way to go. I was delighted to find this tote by Australian designer Annabell Ingall. It’s logo free, has subtle texture and tons of room to lug your stuff to and from the office. As for the shoe, I went with an ankle strap kitten heel. Proportionally it works well with the length of the pants, and I like the nod to throwback style.

Cozy Office Happy Hour
I would wear these pants with an oversized chunky cable knit sweater in a heartbeat. It’s like holiday catalog perfection. Just pour me a glass of wine, stick me by the fire, and I’m set for the night. Keep the casual vibe going with slip-on loafers that feel like a slipper. I love these inexpensive loafers from ASOS. They’re the perfect shoe for casual family gatherings or drinks at your neighbors.

I rounded out the look with an affordable pair of modern pearl earrings and an oversized cocktail ring. Finally, I’m obsessed with this clutch I picked up from Henri Bendel last month. It’s expensive but will get lots of use, especially this time of year.
