This time of year I try to create outfit inspiration posts that work with what you might already own, or maybe require just one flexible, well-priced piece. Today’s post is a lesson in how simple lines, with modern pieces, can create an outfit that doesn’t feel like the same old thing.
To pull this off, all you need is a pair of polished, pull on pants like these black ponte knit pants by Eileen Fisher. When you want functional, timeless pieces, which wear like iron, you go to Eileen Fisher. Her items are not inexpensive, but with proper care, you will get more than your money’s worth. They wash and wear beautifully so you can enjoy them for many years.
I love a turtleneck. In time, I plan on being Diane Keaton in Something’s Gotta Give, wearing my turtlenecks year round. For this look, you don’t want anything too heavy, and you want to avoid ribbing. All you need is a simple, off-white or ivory knit, with a bit of stretch for comfort. I like this cashmere option available at Macy’s. It’s affordable, elegant and will add some extra warmth.
The vest was surprisingly easy to find. The key here is to make sure the length works for your height, which obviously varies significantly. Happily, this vest comes in both Missy and Petite and goes up to a size 16. You could hem it with no issue, so it hits at the best length for you.
Amazingly, the boots are on sale AND have sizes available – an unusual deal this time of year. If you pick these up now, take the extra step and protect them with this water repellent spray. You’ll extend the life of the shoe significantly. Rounding out the look are chic sunglasses and a fantastic work bag from Dagne Dover. If you like the Lo & Sons line of bags, Dagne Dover is a more polished, everyday bag that offers modern functionality in gorgeous leather.
