I haven’t had a breakfast-in-bed, linger-over-your-coffee kind of Mother’s Day morning in a decade because the kids always have a day full of sports.
And that’s fine with me. I’d rather be with friends on a sideline somewhere, sneaking mimosas, than have to get everyone up and dressed for brunch.
This year, I’ll be on the Cooper River in New Jersey with my fellow crew moms.
And honestly, watching our girls do what they love and seeing them succeed after witnessing all the work they put in is the best gift possible.
So take a slightly untraditional approach to Mother’s Day.
I don’t need brunch, and I don’t need a piece of jewelry that says “mom.”
Get me a lovely card, write a sweet note, and don’t buy me anything because I will treat myself.
Most of the moms I know are in the same boat, so if you have a window of opportunity to say, “I’m getting this for Mother’s Day,” here are some options to consider, in a range of prices, along with what I decided to splurge on after months of research.

Cotton Pajamas
It’s a well known fact that I am crazy for pajamas and use any occasion as an excuse to buy a new pair.
This pair by Printfresh at Anthropology is 100% cotton and is simply gorgeous. I just love slipping into a crisp pair at night and roaming around the house in the morning in them while sipping my coffee.
They make me feel like I have my life together.

If you haven’t tried goop’s Beauty Scalp Scrub Shampoo, what are you waiting for? It is DIVINE!
Use it once a week to help remove build up and keep your scalp healthy. Everyone I know who buys this comes back and tells me they couldn’t believe they forked over $55 for shampoo but it’s so incredible it’s worth it.
You’ll turn a boring shower into a spa-like experience.
I have super-processed hair, and this does the trick every time. It smells fresh and feels effervescent.

$55.00The Original Slip Silk Pillow Case
I have dozens of silk pillow cases from Amazon, and they are great, don’t get me wrong.
But there is nothing quiet like the Slip Silk Pillow Case.
The quality, the soft, cooling feel, and how well they wash are unmatched.
There are a ton of benefits to sleeping on silk, like helping to prevent wrinkles and minimizing damage to hair. That’s all great, but I just like the idea of maintaining some kind of self-care at the end of a hectic day.
I’ve given this to several girlfriends as a gift, and they all tell me months later how much they love it.
It’s a luxury for sure, but we deserve it.

I am a Julie Vos superfan. And every year for Mother’s Day I add to my collection.
You can’t go wrong with any of her pieces, this year I ordered her Laurel Statement Stud, $145.
The pieces are incredibly well priced for the style and quality and everything comes beautifully wrapped and ready to gift.

$145.00Diptyque Figuier
Famous French fragrance brand Diptyque is know for their handcrafted, small batched candles. They are truly lovely and, I think, meant to be used to elevated every day moments.
Their scent Figuier (or Fig) is warm, woodsy and fruity but also neutral so a save beat if you are gifting this to someone.
And when you’re done burning save the jar and use it to hold pens on your desk or makeup brushes on a vanity.

$75.00A Signature Scent
If you don’t have a go-to fragrance consider giving yourself time to find one.
Over the years I’ve landed on two go-to scents, Flower Bomb by Viktor&Rolf and, what my kids say is “my smell”, Jo Malone’s Peony & Blush Suede. They are similar in their floral backdrop, with Flower Bomb being sweeter, and Peony & Blush Suede having more depth with a bit of musk.
Try a few samples and allow yourself to splurge. I usually pick up a bottle of Jo Malone’s Peony & Blush Suede every year at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, today, it happens to be 15% off.
One bottle lasts me over a year.

VariesTrain Case
As I get older I like the idea of streamlining and editing down my every day things to one beautiful piece.
For example, I have a cabinet full of inexpensive makeup and travel bags.
But I would love to “trade” them in for a singular, high quality, elegant option, like this train case from Leatherology, available in three sizes, with three options to personalize.
Not the best for packing an overhead bag BUT it’s great for car ride, or, what I would do, use it every day.
The XL size allows a 7″ bottle to sit upright.
Your choice of a dozen colors. I like the navy and fig options best.

$125 – $195Le Creuset
When I started creating a home and learned to cook, I began collecting a few Le Creuset pieces. We were broke but I would scour the internet and outlet stores looking for a deal, or I would spend months saving up.
Today, they are some of my most favorite belongs. I envision passing them down to my girls and one day they use them in their own kitchens.
But they are expensive, so I’ve used holidays and my birthday to invest in them.
And I happen to find this 3.5 Qt Round, perfect for side dishes, on sale at Wayfair for $171.00.
The same one sells at Nordstrom for $350. So – always Google image search a product to see if you can get a better price.
Think about what you really want. Consider the items you want to use to curate your life, and get them for yourself – you deserve it.
