I haven’t had a breakfast-in-bed, linger-over-your-coffee kind of Mother’s Day morning in a decade because the kids always have a day full of sports.
And that’s fine with me. I’d rather be with friends on a sideline somewhere, sneaking mimosas, than have to get everyone up and dressed for brunch.
This year, I’ll be on the Cooper River in New Jersey with my fellow crew moms.
And honestly, watching our girls do what they love and seeing them succeed after witnessing all the work they put in is the best gift possible.
So take a slightly untraditional approach to Mother’s Day.
I don’t need brunch, and I don’t need a piece of jewelry that says “mom.”
Get me a lovely card, write a sweet note, and don’t buy me anything because I will treat myself.

Famous French fragrance brand Diptyque is know for their handcrafted, small batched candles. They are truly lovely and, I think, meant to be used to elevated every day moments.
Their scent Figuier (or Fig) is warm, woodsy and fruity but also neutral so a save beat if you are gifting this to someone.
And when you’re done burning save the jar and use it to hold pens on your desk or makeup brushes on a vanity.

Over the years I’ve landed on two go-to scents, Flower Bomb by Viktor&Rolf and, what my kids say is “my smell”, Jo Malone’s Peony & Blush Suede. They are similar in their floral backdrop, with Flower Bomb being sweeter, and Peony & Blush Suede having more depth with a bit of musk.

As I get older I like the idea of streamlining and editing down my every day things to one beautiful piece.
For example, I have a cabinet full of inexpensive makeup and travel bags.
