Reader Five Faves: July 2021

Reader Five Faves: July 2021

I took last week completely off from work and social media. We spent most of the spring and early summer running around like crazy with our girl’s activities, so I had to reset everything, from my house to my brain. It was a much-needed pause to catch my breath, clear my mind and help me refocus.

Honestly, I don’t know how the big-time bloggers and influencers do it every day – constantly producing content AND posting on Instagram, YouTube, and now TikTok (cringe) every day. I’m so impressed with their ability to be consistent and creative, but if I had to be “on” like that all day, I’d be in the nuthouse sooner than expected.

Just producing what you see here on the site and across our platforms gets exhausting. Don’t get me wrong; this is a cushy job compared to pretty much anything else I could be doing; it’s just a lot of time spent in my head.

I’m trying to get better at giving myself time to rest. I’ve always struggled with this idea that unless I’m running myself ragged, I’m not worthy of success – it’s a terrible mindset I’m trying to break. So this week was a good start.

I did spend some time last week looking at our August calendar. We have some fun features this month, like an entire week dedicated to beauty.

Then in September, I’ll host our Fall Wardrobe Challenge – stay tuned for more details!

Reader Five Faves: July 2021

So let’s kick off the month with a round-up of your favorites from July.

Every month, I look at our analytics and listen to your feedback to round up the best sellers from the previous month to help you continue to build your wardrobe.

Last month you loved a variety of items, including one of the most popular blazers in the Nordstrom sale that’s now back in stock!

Tweed Jacket

Vince camuto tweed jacket

Tweed Jacket, $98.90

This blazer sold out before I even had access to the sale, so I bet it will sell out again. It’s available in regular and plus size (here) for under $100. Buy now and pair with jeans or black pants in the fall.

The Perfect Black Pants

Spanx The Perfect Back Seam Pants in black

The Perfect Back Seam Skinny Pants, $84.90

Speaking of black pants, these “Perfect” Skinny Pants by Spanx have been a reader favorite for almost a full year. They are also back in full stock in the Nordstrom sale for under $85 in regular, plus and petite sizes. They run true to size .

These are a lovely option for the fall and winter since the fabric is thicker than a typical trouser, but still super comfortable thanks to their stretch.

Quilted Crossbody Bag

Quilted Vegan Leather Crossbody Bag in White

Quilted Vegan Leather Crossbody Bag, $68

Every day I get messages from readers in my inbox and DMs raving about this quilted bag, available in white, black, and pink (which reads like a neutral). It’s great for summer travel since you can wear it across your body and keep your phone easily accessible in a separate pouch on the chain.

Running Sneakers

Adidas Edge Lux 4 Running Shoe

Edge Lux 4 Running Shoe, $56.90

Affordable sneakers are hard to come by. If you need a simple, basic running shoe, pick up this pair from Adidas while they are still on sale for under $60.

Another option is this ADORABLE pair from Nike, also part of the sale for $75. I bought them to wear now and in the early fall.

Band Collar Popover

Talbot's Band Collar Popover

Band Collar Popover, $68.50

Finally, this is my favorite summer top. I want to wear it all the time. It’s light and elegant, and more elevated than a simple tee shirt. Available in regular, petite and plus sizes. You can see me in it here.

Rest is not earned; it is not a reward for getting it all done. Women in particular apologize way too much for needing it, for taking time off or even a time out. Rest is a priority, and you were wise to take it when you needed it and wiser still to know your production limits. (BTW readers have consumption limits. If you blogged all the time, I wouldn't read it!)

Hi, I've never been able to get a copy of the wardrobe checklist. Can you help!?

Good for you for taking a break. Your posts are always wonderful and I can’t even imagine how many hours your work demands (not to mention your family!!). Kudos to women who know when to say when. I appreciate everything you do for your readers.
