As soon as I scrolled past this outfit on Pinterest, I knew I had to feature it.
First, it’s adorable. Second, after this last year and a half, it’s just what we want to wear. It’s not too formal or precious, but it’s fresh and NOT SWEAT PANTS.
Third, and best of all, you have many of these pieces in your closet.
If you’re new to our community, Pinterest in Real Life is our popular, weekly series that takes an inspiration image from Pinterest and helps you recreate it with more affordable pieces while breaking it down so you understand how to translate it into your everyday life.
As always, our posts are designed to provide guidance, tips, and specific product recommendations.
Honestly, this might be my favorite look to date. You can easily wear this to the office, but there is no reason you couldn’t wear this to brunch or a day out with friends.
It’s effortless and chic and one point for the season.
Pinterest in Real Life: A Fresh Workwear Look
The key piece here is the Stretch Linen Blazer from J.Crew, available in all sizes up to a 24 with petite and tall options. In addition, you can take 30% off with the code SHOPNOW. Buy a good quality blazer like this and you’ll have it for many seasons. This particular blazer gets rave reviews for fit, quality and style.
I layered it over this casual button by Aqua on sale at Bloomingdales. They are calling it oversized, but I would say it’s more of a relaxed fit. You can also use this french blue stripe shirt we’ve frequently feature from Amazon.
In real life are you walking around with your blazer draped over your shoulders? Probably not. So make sure the button down you use will fit comfortably under the jacket.
Next up, the white jeans. I’m featuring this skinny ankle pair from Wit & Wisdom that are under $70. If you prefer a straight style, these under $100 Jen7 Jeans are available up to a size 18 at Saks.
The shoe in the inspiration picture is an interesting style choice. Typically I would go with something neutral, but the strappy black flat gives an edge that I really like. So I used this inexpensive studded flat that offers the same feeling at Nordstrom Rack for only $25.
Finally, a few simple bracelets round out the look. Use this as a chance to layer some of the pieces you already have and try a new combination. I’m showing a $10 leopard print bangle (from Chico’s!) and this gorgeous All Saints bracelet on sale for $30. I picked it up as a layering piece for the summer.
Style Tip! When creating your outfits look for an opportunity to build cohesiveness. We’re doing that above but repeating black three times in subtle ways: in the shoe, the button on the blazer, and the detail in the bracelet. It may not be obvious, but it makes everything in the outfit look purposeful.
