I graduated high school in 1997. Cher Horowitz was my personal style icon. I spent college going to parties in midriff baring tops (oh, how I miss my taunt stomach) and for special occasions, slip dresses.
All this is to say; I LIVED the 90’s so I’m not exactly sure how I feel about them taking a second spin around the sun.
And yet, here we are.
This fall, I want to shake things up by sharing trend-right pieces that will keep your classic wardrobe modern and exciting.
Here’s where things get tricky. I have a 14 year old daughter who is very much into this new iteration of 90’s style. The question becomes, as 40 year old women, who already wore this style the first time, how do we stay current without looking like we’re trying to dress like our kids?
90’s Inspired Loafer for Fall
Madewell The Corinne Lugsole Loafer, $158
The key is to incorporate subtle elements with your classic pieces and buy the best quality you can afford. For example, I recently ordered these Madewell Loafers as an ankle boot alternative for the fall. Don’t worry; I am still 100% wearing skinny jeans and boots.
But for a change, these will work with boyfriend jeans, straight jeans and pants and casual dresses. After a year and a half of wearing the same things day after day, it’s nice to have some variety.
If these are a too chunky for your taste, opt for this similar but slimmer loafer, also from Madewell. They will help elongate your leg while still giving you an updated look.

I just purchased 2 pair of driving loafers for fall, one in a chestnut brown and another in goldenrod. Even more casual then your selections, of which I love both. I liked the 90's fashions.

Normally I’m not a loafer person but I really love the chunky loafer you highlighted. I still love my ankle boots with a straight leg jean. :)
