Wear it to Work: Pleated Sleeve Blouse
Finding a blouse for work isn’t easy. Think about how many times you’ve picked one up in the store, thinking, “that’s cute” only to take a closer look and realize it’s sheer, backless, or has some other inappropriate and stupid detail. I don’t know who retailers are thinking of when they put together their seasonal buy, but I’m pretty sure it’s not us. So when I came across this pleated long sleeve blouse, I could almost hear a collective cheer from our clients and readers.
Available in four colors (I picked the dark green since we’re transitioning into fall) and under $100, it’s an easy piece to pair with your favorite pants and with a few accessories, you have an appropriate office outfit. We broke today’s options into business casual and casual Friday. If you work from home too, this could be one of those go-to outfits you throw on to head to a quick in person meeting.
For the business casual look, the easiest pairing is a black pant. You could wear any black pant you like. I featured these skinny stretch pants because they are comfortable to wear if you spend your day sitting at a desk, but still polished. They are available in missy and petite up to a size 14, order one size down, they run small. I also like these flare bottom pants by Vince Camuto.
Sam Edelman is killing it in the shoe department this year. I legitimately love every style I’ve seen so far; these pointed flats are no exception. The bow – stud combination is the perfect marriage of edgy femininity. Plus, if you’re wearing stretchy pants to work I would skip a serious heel. However, if you go for the flare bottom you can do a heel.
To pull black into the look, these popular Kate Spade studs work well in both looks. We featured them frequently last season. How sweet is this necklace? It adds movement and texture and is special looking – for only $20. Finally, the bag. I spent two full hours looking for the right bag and everything I found looked like a more expensive version of bags we recently featured. Then I came across this Clare V leopard print and it’s so good I figured why not, fashion should be fun. It’s also pricey, and trust me; I looked, there is no lower priced dupe. If you have a classic black bag with a bit of structure, you can carry that instead.
It’s the easiest thing ever to make this a casual Friday outfit. Just add jeans, and would you look at that? I used a boot cut jean! Ladies, I’m excited for these jeans, because that’s where I am in life, jeans get me super excited, especially when they fit well and are $64.00. (Available in missy and petite up to a size 18.) Remember, your jean should cover your shoe, almost touch the ground. This trick will give you legs for days and will help balance your proportions. There’s nothing worse (not “nothing,” that’s so dramatic) than boot cut jeans that are too short. You’ll look messy without trying.
I’m making a concerted effort to show different shoe styles because I tend to stay in the pump/pointed flat territory. This outfit is a great opportunity to wear something different, especially because the cut of the leg of the jean requires a more substantial shoe. I like this block heel open toe bootie. You won’t have a ton of time to wear these if you live in a cold weather city, but they are a great transition shoe.
By now you know we are big fans of Kendra Scott, and these long necklaces she has in multiple colors work in just about any outfit. If you just buy one new necklace this year, pick one from her line, in the color way you would wear most. Finally, we went with a casual leather tote to match the mood of the outfit. It’s a Friday, you’re running to the office, you through in your laptop and other essentials and your done. Madewell always makes a stylish, functional, high quality tote.
