Sometimes, the simplest thing is a challenge. That’s how our clients feel about under pieces. Many of them ask us what to wear when you want to keep it simple, but don’t want to wear a tank that borders on underwear. If you find yourself in that predicament, consider a cowl neck shell. You get the simplicity of a basic tank with more zush in the style department.
You can wear a cowl neck under a blazer with suits or separates or kick your cardigans up a level and layer one underneath. To help keep things simple, we listed our favorite, go- to, cowl neck layering pieces at great price points. There’s no need to spend a lot of money on something that will sit under something else.
The trick here is to make sure you find one that is still modest. Sometimes these can hang very low, and while it works for a sultry night out (does anyone have them anymore??) it’s not appropriate for work. Also, now and then, you’ll find one with a tiny flap on the inside of the necklace with a weight in it. I love that. It keeps the integrity of the look and helps the neckline stay in place.
The Limited, $49.95
Great neutral options in Missy, Petite and Tall.
A fantastic option in black and white for under $40. This is currently available in size 2 – 16.
Calvin Klein, $27
Pattern in subtle ways, like in an accessory or an under piece like this is an easy way to add some dimension into your wardrobe. I like black and white, because I’m boring. If you like patterns consider this bold and bright tank, this red and cream option would look beautiful with tan or navy, or this gorgeous graphic floral by Ivanka Trump.
