Must Have Piece: Field Jacket

Two Octobers ago I picked up a lightweight navy quilted coat at my local J. Crew outlet. It was a quick, impulsive buy. The kind when you spot something out of the corner of your eye and think, “I need that!” I didn’t realize how much I needed it until I saw just how much I was wearing it. There is nothing high style about a classic field coat but it is wonderfully functional and when done with an enough style can be chic.

I’ve been looking for a similar one to share with our readers for the season, so I was delighted to find this one by Eddie Baurer. Navy is the perfect go with everything neutral, and the gold hardware gives it designer style. The best part is the price, at under $100 it will be some of the best money you spend on a wardrobe staple. You’ll reach for it the beginning of every fall and spring and anytime you need a lightweight coat for years and years to come.

Do you I have to say out loud that this is a casual/weekend coat? Don’t wear it to the office, it won’t “go” with your professional clothes and you’ll look mismatched.
