Amal Clooney is quickly becoming another name we hear from clients as style inspiration. Her look is conservative, professional, and embraces her femininity. Last week she was photographed at LAX looking gorgeous as ever.  It got us thinking about travel outfits and how important it is to look our best when we’re on the road.

Over the years, we’ve worked with countless clients wanting to update their travel outfits to something comfortable, yet professional.  Now that I fly on average of three weeks out of every month,  I can’t tell you how many times I’ve run into colleagues and decision makers in line at security or checking in at the hotel lobby.

When traveling for business, remember you are “on” the moment you leave for the airport until you hit your pillow at home.  It can be exhausting.  Having a simple, go-to uniform ready to wear for travel days takes some of the stress away.

For this, we used Amal as inspiration.  Her red Versace coat may be inappropriate for most of our lives and budgets, but a bright and cheery slim line coat is a great idea. Reiss makes beautiful, modern pieces.  They run small so size up from what you usually wear. Want a less expensive option?  DVF has one on sale for under $200.  J Crew did a beautiful cocoon coat this season for under $400.

A bold coat requires simple under pieces.  Pair a simple crew neck sweater with a comfortable, yet stylish pair of black jeans. NYDJ makes a fantastic travel jean. They are mid rise, and slim cut, but you don’t feel like you’re wearing leggings. Keep in mind, some NYDJ items have random sparkles and sequins on them – which is a disaster.

Flats are perfect for travel days, just be sure they have a pointed toe. It’s more professional and polished than a casual rounded toe and if they fit you correctly should be just as comfortable. Finally, a print scarf pulls the look together and will keep the airplane chill off you during your flight.

If you need a new carry-on, Briggs and Riley is the best. They are high quality and fit everything you need – especially since no one wants to check bags anymore. I particularly love their four wheel designs. I never thought much of pulling my bag behind me until I tried this, which rolls next to you. It will change your travel life.

Remember, looking pulled together while traveling is a job requirement. You’ll guarantee a strong impression when you inevitably see people you know. At the very least that you’ll get better service than the woman in their Hello Kitty pajamas.
